Gonzo wants $7 million - papachaz - 03-10-2013 03:08 PM and no training camp. $7 million for Tong G? The articles say if he gets that he'd come back. Much as I love TG as a football player, I'm not sure I'd bring him back for that kind of money. No doubt he's in shape to play another year. But still, putting that much cap space into him before the draft to me just seems crazy. what does everyone else think? RE: Gonzo wants $7 million - mdrake34 - 03-10-2013 03:18 PM Part of me wants to move on, but our offense really and truly flows through him. The falcons are going to give him whatever he wants though, so my opinion doesn't matter. I just hope it won't keep us from retaining any of our other key guys. RE: Gonzo wants $7 million - AUTiger7222 - 03-10-2013 03:32 PM That's how much he made last year. RE: Gonzo wants $7 million - Jimusmc - 03-10-2013 04:01 PM so lets use up a chunk of our cap so we can't get key guys? Thought he made 5 mill last year....I could def be wrong tho RE: Gonzo wants $7 million - ggp - 03-10-2013 04:25 PM Offer him $3million and.....he can come back after game #8. This gives him plenty of time to get sick of taking his kids to school. This also gives the team a chance to see how the offense can produce without TG, as well as cap relief. I would not pay him $7 million for 2013. Diminishing returns......the bane of age in the NFL. Re: Gonzo wants $7 million - juraitwaluzka - 03-10-2013 04:26 PM If we had a stout defense I would be more inclined to let him walk. Hopefully our defense will be improved, but I don't think it's realistic to expect them to be dominant. We are going to need all those magical third down conversions that Tony brings to the table. Without those it would put too much pressure on the defense. Given that, seems to me signing Gonzales is the best way to spend that 7 million, especially for next season. RE: Gonzo wants $7 million - Jesus - 03-10-2013 04:26 PM $7 million? When did he become such a primadonna? How about five? We can draft a decent TE who can put up good enough numbers for a fraction of that. I thought I read in one of these articles he made 3.9 million last year RE: Gonzo wants $7 million - papachaz - 03-10-2013 05:55 PM (03-10-2013 04:01 PM)Jimusmc Wrote: so lets use up a chunk of our cap so we can't get key guys? this is my worry also (03-10-2013 04:25 PM)ggp Wrote: I would not pay him $7 million for 2013. Diminishing returns......the bane of age in the NFL. yeah, I know he put up some good #3 receiver numbers, but his downfield stuff was really not there last year. I really don't want to see that kind of money go to one IMO not so necessary guy when we have some other needs to deal with |
