Except under federal law, you can't ask. Because if you ask, and then base your decision on that fact alone, you have just opened yourself up to huge liability.

Yep. Typical liberal legislation.

Not drafting someone because they are gay would be wrong. But to ask question shouldn't be. The GM and coach is responsible for creating a team where people trust each other. If they had a gay player then it'd be best to know about it before draft since it could cause disruption in the locker room if found the wrong way.

Physically ability trumps nearly all. If Brady was gay every team would still want him as their QB.

There's a reason no NFL player has ever come out of the closet.

You know damn well there's been gay football players. But there's a reason we never know who they are.

It's illegal to base a hiring decision on sexual orientation, not to ask. Otherwise every AIDS Clinic and Red Cross Blood Drive in the world is going to fill the jails.

Asking alone should be no problem, and that's all that can be said to have happened here.

Actually, no it isn't. They didn't even ask that. They asked, "Do you like girls?" I can tell you, knowing a polygraph operator, the way they gauge your telling the truth isn't so much the machine, but some initial "bombs" to crack you natural defenses. "I'm going to ask you something embarrassing," is a favorite... they don't ask anything after, but the reaction tells them all they need. This sentence could be exactly the same. It gets the interviewee uncomfortable. Also, their answer says a lot about their maturity. Here are two possible answers.

"Well, I've been steady with one girl most of Senior Year. We just broke up, so I've started seeing other people."

"Yeah, them ho's love me, know what I'm saying. I don't even know how many I bagged after the season ended."

Lots could be gathered from that question. In fact, that the guy immediately thought the question was sexual harassment and complained is probably the kind of info they were hoping to gather from that question.

They are going to pay you millions. They want to try to get you off your comfort zone and see your reaction. "So, do you think your mom is sexy?"
"Who would you kill if you could get away with it?"
"What is the most expensive thing you ever stole?"

These teams hired tons of psychologists to help them get the info they want. This isn't a simple meet and greet. This is business, and the questions have a purpose, even if most can't discern them.

Ovie was just a rumor after seeing that video of him singing and dancing like a fruitcake. But I've heard him on the radio talking about women. I think he's even married now. He never "came out of the closet" and confirmed being gay. I don't think he is.

I think he is. I remember the stories coming out. One was posted here and I got a C and D letter from his attorney to remove the content.

Few years ago I went to Friday night lights and someone next to me had the image for him to sign. It tore Ovie up. He was done. It was an ass thing to do for sure.

Confirmed or not, it happened and its out there.

Still he was an awesome player. Just under utilized.
