Sources: Saints to hire Rob Ryan

The New Orleans Saints plan to hire former Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Rob Ryan as their new defensive coordinator, according to league sources.

The boisterous Ryan was fired as defensive coordinator of the Cowboys on Jan. 8, soon after owner Jerry Jones said he would make major changes to a team that finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs.

After his ouster in Dallas, Ryan said, "I'll be out of work for like five minutes."

The St. Louis Rams visited twice with Ryan but ultimately decided not to hire him as his addition was not a good "scheme fit," according to coach Jeff Fisher.

Information from ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen and The Associated Press was used in this report.

Haha, can anybody find Guido's posts saying wanted Ryan, then didn't want him? Who wants to bet he now says Ryan was the best and most obvious choice?

Going to the 3-4: "Ryan would be the obvious choice"

Ryan to the Rams: "I preferred to have someone else anyway, we have our pick of the litter"

Ryan to the Saints: "I wanted Ryan all along, he was always the best option"

It'll be interesting to see what he does with that "talent" they have on D. He doesn't seem to have had any great success as a full on coordinator wherever he's been. His wiki page just shows a bunch of mediocre to shitty defensive units. He had a lot of talent to work with in Dallas but apparently they finished 14th overall in 2012, wow. I actually feel like this move to the 3-4, coupled with a likely hiring of Ryan, may make the Stains worse on D. Call me crazy, but this just looks like a recipe for absolute disaster.

Saints are due to have a lot of cap problems...so switching and bringing in young players could work out.....but I think Ryan is SO SO.....

Glad Nolan didn't get a HEad Coaching job.....I truly expect our defense to be better next year....his schemes are hard and take a lot out of personnel....now our guys know what to expect....and that they better work on getting and staying in tip top shape....add some good rotational pieces with strong tackling ability and we will be great.....mark it down.....we work on fundamentals and 60 minutes of football and we will be a top 5 defense in scoring allowed and top 12 defense in yards (and YES that is a huge jump! in yards allowed)

Once again, the media is spouting incorrect crap. Ryan hasn't even been interviewed yet. Payton said this morning on Mike and Mike that he will be interviewing 2 - 4 candidates this week including Ryan and the Georgia DC.

The Saints current roster is much more suited to the 3-4 than the brand of 4-3 that Spags attempted.

Ryan was the obvious choice as the current media hype relays. At no time did I say that he would be my choice. I would personally prefer Crennel, but I doubt that would happen. And, yes, the Saint do have the pick of the litter as every 3-4 coaching candidate is still available.

And even if for some reason it is Ryan I would have to have him prove it to me. Regardless of who the DC ends up being the switch back to man coverage in the secondary will immediately prove to be an improvement.

Incorrect. I heard a clip from Payton on the radio yesterday and again this morning saying he is interviewing Rob Ryan "AGAIN" along with 3 or 4 others (one of which is Todd Grantham from UGA).

Straight from his own mouth he said he had already interviewed Ryan. As usual, you're talkin out your ignorant ass.

My ignorant ass is more eloquent than you, my friend.
