DeMeco Ryans - Xanthri - 02-05-2013 05:02 AM

Eagles may trade him....wondering if anyone thinks he would be a good fit for us?

i am not a big go out and get this guy or that....but I remember he was a monster in Houston originally....then they did some switches and next thing he was traded to the Eagles....always thought it was weird.....but that guy looked good early in his career...

Anyway he still has a few good years....would love to see if we could get him for a reasonable draft pick.....i really think we need to shore up the LB corps.....this could be interesting....not sure if he can move around enough because of his size....but the dude can definitely tackle!

He's an upgrade over Dent for sure. Was a monster at Bama and Houston, got injured I think? Then went to the Eagles, where NFL careers go to die.

The heck we need another LB for? Only thing I care to see is a change on the DL and nothing else.

Nicholas is mediocre and Dent is young but he's on his way to mediocrity as well. Not key areas requiring an upgrade, but I would happily take one.

The LB core had a huge hand in losing the SF game and in Seattle's comeback too.

Did they? I don't think so. How many times did you see a DE miss the RB because they were scared Kaep had the ball still?
Our DL has been pathetic most of the time. We need guys to be able to push the line back. A DE would be great to have, BUT they aren't easy to scout and you never know what your gonna get. I wanna see the fattest man ever in the middle of our DL.

Someone like this.... but still alive.

we could stand to upgrade both nic and dent.

RE: DeMeco Ryans - ATLBound - 02-05-2013 09:13 PM

I like Nic but he played ABSOLUTELY horrible in the playoffs. He was by far our biggest liability on defense in the playoffs.

Thats a cause for concern because you want to be your best when you play the best. We couldn't hide his deficiencies at all. That spells trouble possibly for Nic's future.

RE: DeMeco Ryans - Beef - 02-05-2013 11:15 PM

Honestly, Nicholas should be an ILB in a 3-4. He is a really good tackler and he's always around the ball on runs. He's also a very good pass rusher, but for some reason we rarely send him in. His problem is he's just not fast enough in pass coverage for an OLB. His pass coverage skills in general are very average actually.

At this point, if we drafted or brought in a new starting OLB, I wouldn't mind moving Nic in the middle because I think he'd be better than Dent. I really thought Dent would be better than he is, but he really played well below average for an ILB this year. Lofton may have sucked in pass coverage, but he had 147 tackles for us in 2011. Dent had a whopping 67. Granted Lofton played about 1000 snaps to get 147 and Dent played about 600 to get 67, but that's still a HUGE dropoff in tackles. And Dent didn't do any better in coverage than Lofton normally did either.

We gotta fix ILB this offseason. We have to get someone who will give us 100 tackles in 750 snaps and isn't a liability in coverage. We can't stay in the nickel as much as we did this year again. Our run defense was horrid and in pass coverage we got destroyed by good TE's.

Now better pass rush and better OLB pass coverage can fix the TE problem, but we can't keep playing only 2 LB's with our front 4 sucking ass at stopping the run.

Run stopping is another reason why I like Alex Okafor and Kawann Short for draft picks this year. Both are outstanding tacklers (and TFL's) on top of being really good pass rushers. Short is 315 lbs already too. He could easily add another 15 and play NT in a 3-4 set.

Wasn't Nich an OLB in college at South Florida?
