RE: Osi Umenyiora ? - cnasty - 02-03-2013 09:41 PM Meh, I'd pass on him. He won't be worth his asking price. RE: Osi Umenyiora ? - Xanthri - 02-04-2013 02:46 AM as long as he doesn't try to break the bank (which in the past he has seemed to want to do) then I am ok with bringing him in for two years....perhaps the first with abe....and the second (after we win the superbowl and abe walks away) he can teach some younger guys...... RE: Osi Umenyiora ? - atljbo - 02-04-2013 02:51 AM I agree... Its time for us to take a talented high draft pick DE RE: Osi Umenyiora ? - Xanthri - 02-04-2013 03:00 AM (02-04-2013 02:51 AM)atljbo Wrote: I agree... Its time for us to take a talented high draft pick DE not sure what you mean? we don't have a high enough draft pick to go after a DE....we have to find that diamond in the rough....the one thing about OSI is a lot of people compare massoqou (spelled wrong)...perhaps bringing in Osi for a year or two he could mentor the young man into a superstar.....hell....he might be able to help a few of our guys out..... Our draft pick position is best for shoring up the O-line or TE position (and no I am not saying I want them to do that - but that is the BEST value we will get at 30 unless someone falls) We have to pick up DE talent in an aging guy who still has gas and wants to play for contender....or a project guy who gets released that we see potential in.....or TD needs to find that guy who no one else sees......who is worth a 1st round.... I would be happy with trading down and getting another 2nd and third... When i say high.. I mean in the 1st 2 rounds..... There is some goo talent in this draft RE: Osi Umenyiora ? - cnasty - 02-04-2013 02:11 PM (02-04-2013 03:49 AM)atljbo Wrote: There is some goo talent in this draft Goo talent can be risky. I think Abe is done and Osi has at least one or maybe 2 years. We just don't need one, If we had OSI this year, may have helped. If we had him and Abe next year. Would be a one year window. But we need to get backups or flatout shift to the 3-4. But 24th is not going to get it, people can say, Flacco is better then Ryan, Ryan never had Flaccos defense and if he had, they would have 3 super bowls.
RE: Osi Umenyiora ? - Xanthri - 02-05-2013 04:44 AM I don't say we don't spend a high draft pick....but bringing in a vet like OSI who knows how to motivate......and we get abraham to restructure so he isn't a cap hit.....we would likely have a stronger 1 year window but we might be able to get 2-3 out of OSI.....I think Abraham would ride into the sunset when we win.. Again as long as we can get him for a reasonable salary and don't overpay him and make guarantees......My personally opinion is EVERY contract should be heavily incentive based and there ought to be a close that if they don't perform (not due to injury) or have personal problems then they have to pay half the signing bonus back and we have the right to cancel their contract (IE no cap hit).....but I know the league frowns on heavy incentive contracts...... Really? You can't find a good defensive end at the back end of the 1st round? Patrick Kerney was an absolute stud for us and was the 30th pick in the 1st round in the 1999 draft. That was the last time we developed a stud defensive end. |
