I guess that automatically qualifies him for the "Gone" category. RE: Who stays and who is gone - phocis850 - 01-26-2013 01:27 AM With McClain playing the way he has, Grimes is gone. Guy got a hell of a pay day and he is a liability. Robinson is one more concussion away from being vegetable. I seriously think his family will be suing the NFL in 15-20 years. At least that's what they always say. Funny, when I played, I was taught to lead with my face mask, watch the stomach to avoid being juked, and wrap up tackle the mid section, starting with the face mask and sliding to your shoulder. Once I had my arms around someone, I added what I called an "alligator roll" if the didn't go down on the first hit. RE: Who stays and who is gone - Beef - 01-26-2013 03:30 PM Dunta is too much of a cap hit. We don't even have leverage to ask him to renegotiate the contract because it's not like we'll threaten to cut him. This organization is not going to pay someone $5.8M to sit at home or almost certainly play for another team. Dunta is a thumper and one of the few we have who can tackle half decent. I just wish he was better in coverage. Always seems like when the opposing player is wide freaking open and we're all scratching our heads asking how the frick anyone can be that open, it's on Dunta's side. Not that this is always Dunta's fault because i'm sure he's playing his zone or trying to cover someone else, but it just always seems like he's making the tackle on the wide open guy which makes you wonder. I like Dunta because he causes receivers to have T-Rex arms when running routes through his area and that helps, but he's not the quickest guy and he's pretty average at passes defended and interceptions stats. I don't think he's a liability though. And like I said, with that cap hit, he's going no where. RE: Who stays and who is gone - Beef - 01-26-2013 04:25 PM Tony Gonzalez - TE - UFA - Obviously re-sign if he decides to come back. Unfortunately I think it's like 99.9% chance that's not happening. Brent Grimes - CB - UFA - If he'll sign a 3 year deal for $4M/yr, do it. If not, let him go and we'll get a decent comp pick for him in 2014. And achilles tear is not career ending. Grimes is an athletic freak of nature. He will come back from this injury just fine and ball out at CB whereever he is. I would LOVE to have Grimes and Asante on the outside with Dunta at nickle and McClain, Owens, and Thompson for depth. That would be awesome IMO. Will Svitek - T - UFA - He was on IR all year and we still didn't do an injury settlement release, so this likely means we'll be re-signing him on the cheap. Sam Baker - T - UFA - Definitely re-sign. Dude is FINALLY healthy and it showed. I think he lead the OL in fewest sacks allowed and he had only 1... let me repeat that 1 false start penalty all year. The last couple years, you could guarantee him allowing a sack a game and 2 false start penalties. He was absolutely amazing this year. Mike Cox - FB - UFA - Unfortunately can't put him on PS, and with Ewing back, Cox will get released. Dominique Franks - CB - UFA - He's gone. The fact he's not even returning punts anymore confirms it. He has nothing to offer. Chris Hope - S - UFA - Definitely try to re-sign. Hope played very well while Willie Mo was out. If we don't re-sign him, that means Schillinger is back. Robert McClain - CB - RFA - Most definitely re-sign. The likelihood of our 3 starting CB's staying healthy all season is probably nil, so he'll get lots of playing time. Todd McClure - C - UFA - DONE DONE DONE. Don't even re-sign if he says he's not retiring. Luke McCown - QB - UFA - He's just happy to be in the NFL still. Can't go to PS and we're not sure if Davis is ready to be #2. So whatever, who cares if he stays or goes. William Moore - S - UFA - No question. We'll give him a good size contract and he's all Falcon. Christopher Owens - CB - UFA - He was on IR half the season and we didn't injury settlement release him, so likely means we're planning to re-sign. He's improved year after year and before he got injured he was playing as good as you can hope a backup could play. We'll probably see how he does coming back from injury. Michael Palmer - TE - RFA - He's our best blocking TE and with TG leaving there's no question he'll be re-signed. Mike Peterson - LB - UFA - He is the leader of the locker room for the defense. I don't think he's going anywhere. He's still a good backup LB. Probably give him another 1 year deal on the very cheap. Garrett Reynolds - T - UFA - If McClure leaves and they put Konz at center, Reynolds, Johnson, Hawley, Gunn, and Manley will battle for RG. Although I think Johnson is officially a backup OT now. Reynolds went on IR mid-season and we didn't cut him, so that means he's likely sticking around. Watch for Phillipkeith Manley to win this spot unless we sign a top FA RG or draft one high. And obvioulsy we saw something in Gunn because he made the 53. Jacques McClendon is also a guard on the PS. He's a huge MF'er too. Lawrence Sidbury - DE - UFA - He's done IMO. Total bust. Antone Smith - RB - RFA - He's our best gunner and one of fastest guys on the team. If Turner is gone, he might get more playing time and who knows. I think the kid has potential and still not sure why they keep overlooking him. Re-sign for cheap, he doesn't have a choice. Vance Walker - DT - UFA - He's probably played better than Peters and definitely better than Jerry. I don't think we have a choice but to re-sign him. He could be a starting DT on several teams. We may lose him due to being out-bid, in fact. Also I believe we should let Jerry go if we draft a new DT. I'm ready to see Robertson play. Robertson is the strongest guy on the team. Dude benches like 600 and squats 900. He should be throwing O-linemen around like rag dolls. He's 305 lbs, he puts on another 20 and he can easily play the NT in our 3-4 sets. Turner obviously needs to go. Dude played 2 decent games out of 18 all season. That's it. He's predictable, slow, and can't cut anymore. It's time for a Giovani Bernard or Kenjon Barner type RB who can blaze through holes, make 2-3 cuts, outrun anyone on the field, and can also catch 30+ passes. I love Quizz, but he's not a homerun threat. A Quizz/Bernard/Smith combo is what I want to see. No more Turner/Quizz/Snelling. I'm done with Snelling too. He'll likely stay if we let Turner go, but I don't even like him as a 3rd option anymore. I know some of you have mentioned drafting a WR, but I don't see it. We have Quizz's brother James on the PS, Kerry Meier coming off IR, along with Tim Toone and Drew Davis on the 53. That's a lot of WR's behing Roddy, Julio, and HD. Cone is on IR as well, but nothing special there. HD may start getting more looks if TG is gone. I believe DE and RB are our top priorities. TE as well, but not higher than the other 2. DT and LB will be needed as well I think. CB if we don't re-sign Grimes. I think if we do pick up an OL, it'll be in FA. This draft is rich with DE's, RB's, TE's, DT's, and LB's, so that's what I think we draft. Because I've heard of the stories of kids being taught to tackle with their facemask. But when I was playing we weren't taught to tackle that way. We were taught to run through our man by leading with our shoulder and to wrap up that way. Could also have been the coaches I played for, they were a bit old school (we ran the triple option in the school I went to in NC). |
