How would you grade Tds 2012 off-season moves. - Polar Bear Jones - 01-23-2013 10:52 AM There has been a lot of talk about how the team's we faced in the playoffs were more talented teams. I find this to be disturbing and a little confusing because I think Dimitroff has been named Executive of the year twice so he must be doing something right. I decided to take it to the boards. How do you think his off-season moves turned out last season. Here is the list as I remember please add any I miss. Franchise Brent Grimes . Grade F through no fault of his own but we got no production from a franchise player. Resign Thomas Decoud. Grade B Decoud and Willie Moore formed one of the best safety tandems in the league and he made the pro bowl. Still wish he did not have lapses in run defense. Resigns Todd McClure. Grade C. Got to keep your Qb happy by keeping his longtime center but I cannot help but think it hindered the development of some of the younger guys. Resigns Abe. Grade A. Only consistent pass rush. Compare his numbers to Mario Williams and a smaller price tag and it looks like a great move. Trades for Asante. Grade A. Intangibles and tangibles. Picks up McClain. Grade B. Solid pick up. Signs Lofa Tatupa. Grade F. Injury prone guy not Dimitroffs fault but we could have used more lb help. Resigning Kroy Biermann. Grade C. Was asked by Nolan to do a lot but I expected more from him in this system. Resigning Harry Douglas. Grade D. I still think he should have been more productive given the coverages he faced. Plus he did little as a returner. Restructuring Dunta Robinsons contract. Grade B. really smart move. Draft is a D so far to me. Konz Holmes Ewing Massaquoi Mitchell Robertson Well that's how I see it how do you guys see it. RE: How would you grade Tds 2012 off-season moves. - Aftermath - 01-23-2013 02:39 PM Can't disagree with most of your opinions on the signings, though I think Asante deserves an A+. As far as the draft goes, still too early to tell. But we wound up with 1 starter this year from a 2nd round pick. not too bad IMO and next year Ewing should be the starting FB and there is a chance that Holmes will have a place on the O-line. If that happens that would be 3 starters from the same draft without a 1st round pick. I think Konz will be an excellent C so I might be a bit biased when it comes to grading this draft. Re: How would you grade Tds 2012 off-season moves. - juraitwaluzka - 01-23-2013 02:43 PM The only thing I might disagree with is Douglas. As the fourth option I wouldn't really expect a whole lot of production. And he only started doing punt returns at the end of the year. So, not an A by any means but not a D either. RE: How would you grade Tds 2012 off-season moves. - ggp - 01-23-2013 03:38 PM The draft is not a D. He drafted a starter, a promising LT, a quality big back (injured), and a likely starting pass rusher for next season. He did that without a first rounder. Without a first rounder, I would raise his grade to C. If Massaquoi becomes an effective pass rusher and Ewing helps us in short yardage situations, the draft grade goes up to an A. The Grimes signing made sense. We had Robinson and Owens on the roster. Keeping Grimes showed good judgement. I don't see the logic in giving a grade when a player is injured. This is a game of attrition, so injuries are a constant risk. The same can be said for the Tatupu and Manuai signings. This gets no grade but should be viewed as an indication of TD's preseason evaluation. His suspicions proved correct....we needed a better RG and LB. I expect to see something done about this in the next few months. Decoud is a pro-bowler. That means he gets an A. The Assante and McClain signings were brilliant. Grade A and B. Bierman had his most productive and relevant season. You are an unreasonable grader. We got value for him Grade: B I don't remember the contract that Abe received, so I won't comment on this grade. I am concerned that Abe will never be a full-time player again. Harry Douglas. I have to agree with you. I think that the team expected much more from him. He should have lit up the league with the coverages he was facing. He managed to make a couple of catches late in the season, but he also tripped twice and botched potentially game-changing plays. Grade: D. All in all, the offseason moves made sense. While several players succumbed to injuries, the decision-making was sound. Do you know what Abraham's numbers were in the final 11 games starting with the Cowboys game? 3 sacks and 17 tackles. Do you know what Biermann's stats were over the same time span? 2 sacks and 25 tackles. Do you know what Babineaux's stats were over the same time span? 2 sacks and 23 tackles. I would give Abraham a C. He was great through the Eagles game (A) and then non existent after that (F). That grades out to a C. But I agree with the rest of your grades. He starts off strong and fades as the season progresses. That's why he has always been a non factor in the playoffs for us. Hurt or not he wasn't going to do anything in the POs. I wasn't too keen on the fact that we resigned him when I thought we should have tried to go in another direction. We paid alot of money for that handful of sacks he got. Kroy may not have had the better sack totals but he seemed to get the most consistent pressure from what I saw throughout the season. RE: How would you grade Tds 2012 off-season moves. - Radical - 01-23-2013 08:42 PM Concerning our draft, we're a bit like the Patriots now. We're solid enough across the board that 1st round picks are the only ones that can be almost guaranteed to start. Everything else is going to be developmental or BPA type stuff. RE: How would you grade Tds 2012 off-season moves. - Drathdon - 01-24-2013 01:13 AM Abraham was an A to me, considering the contract we got him to sign for vs his value he would have gotten elsewhere. Just like with Grimes, you have to judge the decision based on the factors present, and not the injuries that could not be foreseen.
