Physically Outmatched - ATLBound - 01-22-2013 09:20 PM I just realized that leading up to the Championship Weekend there was a lot of talk about us losing because of being physically outmatched by the 49ers and although we lost the game the actually team that got physically outmatched were the Patriots. It was truly a straight beatdown and there wasn't anything the Patriots could do about it. The worst team on Championship weekend was the Patriots. We responded very well to two very physical teams and I'm proud of how the team stepped up to the challenge and meanwhile everybody's darling Patriots were punked and had a sour attitude about it afterwards. Nothing to discuss really, just an observation RE: Physically Outmatched - swanlee - 01-22-2013 09:40 PM Yep I agree we beat Seattle who everyone thought would throw us around and dominated San Fran for 1 half. We're almost there, we need a couple of fat huge DT's and at least one monster on the Oline. RE: Physically Outmatched - phocis850 - 01-22-2013 10:07 PM Yep, we are about 3 players away from an incredibly solid team. It's unbelievable to think that after so many years in the cellar, the Falcons are a top-notch organization. We are doing things right. RE: Physically Outmatched - juraitwaluzka - 01-22-2013 11:42 PM Yep, we pretty much ended up 3rd. Not the outcome we wanted but better than 4th-32nd. RE: Physically Outmatched - The Don™ - 01-22-2013 11:53 PM We need to get more physical up the middle on both sides of the ball. Our DTs aren't strong enough. We need a DT that can command double teams, free up LBs to make plays, and shed blocks. Just need some brute strength there..Doesn't have to be a 350 lb DT like many fans want but I think we can find one in the draft. I wanna see what Travian has got too. Cut Jerry BTW. He's the definition of finesse and soft. Fucking knee injury screwed him over. Konz should slide over to C. Find a behemoth RG in the draft like a Larry Warford for example that can clear lanes and outmuscle opposing DTs. The key qualities to look for this offseason should be strength, athleticism, and physicality. We are too finesse up the middle. We need to put some fear into teams. It starts up front. RE: Physically Outmatched - Xanthri - 01-23-2013 02:33 AM fired the strength and conditioning coach today.....jeff Fish....personally i think this is a good move....I am not sure how much of a say this guy has in his area....but I do think a strong start signifies the strength or team has, but poor play down the stretch is a sign of poor conditioning.....All year long we ran out of gas and let people back into games that should have been snoozers.......Mostly because our defense got gassed (though it doesn't appear at the end of the season our offense has much left in the second half either.....) i think we add a few versatile players on defense like a couple DE/LB tweener, a beefy DT, look for a TE who can block and catch and isn't selfish.....and perhaps add some dual taskers (I still think james rodgers (quiz's brother who plays with equal passion but not quite as fast as Quiz) could be used like a slot receiver like wes welker) and then work on conditioning....make it where our guys can get through a full 60 without a let down.....and we could be in position to make several runs at the superbowl.....i have not given up....little bummed because i think the Superdome would have been similar to playing at home......but oh well....guess we will have to look at winning outside. |
