NFL Just annouced, Sean Payton reinstated - papachaz - 01-22-2013 11:54 AM

just saw the headline at the top of the page. I think it was only right to give him time to get started, he's paid his penalty. I don't want them to have any excuses next year.

if only Roddy had turned to catch the ball, we'd have swept them this year, so sweeping them next year WITH their coach will be even better

Goodell was getting crucified by the press and finally gave in. I'm sure he didn't want this hanging over his head when he came down to NOLA next week. But, he is still going to get treated like shit in the city and he might want to bring his own food.

bring his own food, LOL

at the least he needs someone to taste it for him? or make sure he only eats in restaurants where he can see into the kitchen? too funny. and for the record guido, I'm not a goodell fan either, never was. I think he is single handedly killing the sport we love to argue over

oh, I only saw the Pat Y article, which was basically my title here. if/when you see something with more detail, feel free to put up a link

Payton reinstated

"Just in time for the Super Bowl, the New Orleans Saints’ bounty scandal officially has come to a close.

The last remaining issue has been resolved. The NFL announced Tuesday morning that coach Sean Payton has been reinstated from his season-long suspension. Initially, Payton was supposed to remain suspended until the day after the Super Bowl.
Cary Edmondson/US PresswireThe NFL reinstated New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton on Tuesday from his suspension.
But Roger Goodell and Payton met on Monday and the NFL commissioner decided to move up the timetable for Payton’s return.

“Sean fully complied with all the requirements imposed on him during his suspension,’’ Goodell said in a statement. “More important, it is clear that Sean understands and accepts his responsibilities as a head coach and the vital role that coaches play in promoting player safety and setting an example for how the game should be played at all levels. We are committed to delivering football that fans love and the safety players deserve. Coach Payton agrees and I look forward to working with him going forward to do that.”

There are no winners and losers here. But there should be closure. Goodell isn’t absolving Payton of anything in the bounty scandal. He simply is cutting Payton a break and letting him get back to work a little early, which is nice because it allows Payton to make some decisions about his coaching staff and also allows the coach to begin working with general manager Mickey Loomis on offseason personnel decisions.

Payton, who is viewed by many around the league as arrogant, came across as humble and somewhat contrite in a statement issued through the Saints soon after the news was announced.

“As I stated back in March, I, along with Mickey Loomis, take full responsibility for all aspects of our football program. I clearly recognize that mistakes were made, which led to league violations. Furthermore, I have assured the commissioner a more diligent protocol will be followed. Lastly, I feel we have learned from our mistakes and are ready to move forward. I want to thank our owner, Mr. (Tom) Benson and all of our great fans for the overwhelming support throughout this past year.

There, this whole sordid chapter officially is over. It’s time for everyone to move on."

ok I didn't start this thread to start the discussion all over again. that last sentence in the article pretty well spells it out. It's now old news and the season is over for both our teams. time to move on and start looking at next year

It is what all of the talking heads and such are saying on Twitter right now. It was a publicity move before he hit New Orleans. Don't think for a second that he did it because it was the right thing to do. He did it to take the edge off of the city, although I doubt it will work. The New Orleans mayor has been pleading with the people to treat Goodell with respect. That is not going to happen. I will guarantee that.

Sean Payton reinstated by NFL as Saints head coach

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton can go back to work.

The NFL announced Tuesday morning that Commissioner Roger Goodell has reinstated Payton from his season-long suspension, effective immediately. The two men met on Monday, with Payton acknowledging his responsibility for the actions of his coaching staff and players.

"We had a very productive discussion," Goodell said in a statement. "Sean fully complied with all the requirements imposed on him during his suspension. More important, it is clear that Sean understands and accepts his responsibilities as a head coach and the vital role that coaches play in promoting player safety and setting an example for how the game should be played at all levels. We are committed to delivering football that fans love and the safety players deserve. Coach Payton agrees and I look forward to working with him going forward to do that."

Payton can resume his coaching duties immediately. That means he'll be able to attend the Senior Bowl this week and get back in the Saints' facility to start preparations for the offseason. Of course, the Saints' stadium and facilities will be busy next week with Super Bowl week arriving in New Orleans. Reinstating Payton now helps put the Bounty scandal behind the league with the big game approaching.

"I am thankful today Commissioner Goodell has granted me reinstatement," Payton said in a statement released by the Saints. "As I stated back in March, 'I, along with Mickey Loomis, take full responsibility for all aspects of our football program.'

I clearly recognize that mistakes were made, which led to league violations.

Furthermore, I have assured the Commissioner a more diligent protocol will be followed.

Lastly, I feel we have learned from our mistakes and are ready to move forward. I want to thank our owner, Mr. Benson and all of our great fans for the overwhelming support throughout this past year.

I am excited to be back as Head Coach of the New Orleans Saints!"

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport notes that Payton's originally-scheduled date to return to the Saints was February 3. This gives him a chance to start studying up on prospects at the Senior Bowl, and possibly eases some of the tension between the NFL and the city of New Orleans before the Super Bowl. It will be interesting to see if Payton becomes a vocal presence during the week. He certainly has a lot of work to do with his team.

Former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams remains suspended indefinitely.

Is it not clean/civil to remark that Guido's picture looks like a giant vagina swallowing Goodell?
