How many possessions did the Falcons have in this game? 10 if that many? That's not enough possessions for an offense this good. When you have a defense that gives up a lot of yards that means the other team is on the field a lot which limits the offensive possessions which means if the offense doesn't score on every possession your chances of winning are very slim. I pointed out my concerns in this area months ago because it was that much of a problem.

I think we had 5 possessions in the first half, scored on 4 of them. Not sure about the second half but since we didn't do much stopping of SF in the second half I wouldn't be surprised if we had less.

how many did we have in the second half? 3? not counting the 6 second one pass play at the end. the D has to get off the field and give them the ball back if you expect the Offense to keep their foot on the gas. The ticky tack PI on Matthews was a BS call that kept that drive alive for them. that to me was a game changer

So the Falcons had 8 possessions in the game not counting that 6 second play at the end of the game. That simply won't get it done. The Falcons scored 24 points and almost 500 yards of offense despite just 8 possessions. That's pretty damn impressive to me. The offense did not lost this game. The defense did.

And that call on Cliff Matthews was just 1 of many calls that went in favor of the Niners.

If your offense scores 50% of the time, then you should win. The only bad thing was that unforced turnover that was a fumble. We get that whether its a field goal or touchdown and we win.

But the defense really put us in a bind by not being remotely close to receivers. Kaepernick can't pass the ball. It's rare that he throws a receiver open. And we saw that but the receivers were so wide open that he didn't have to make a great throw.

So that's an average of right at 60 yards per possession and 3 points.

For the Niners, they had 9 possessions not including the single play before the half. They averaged 41 yards per possession and 3.11 points.

Each team got 9 possessions not counting last second possessions at the end of each half.

Falcons averaged 53 yards per possession and 2.7 points per possession.
Niners averaged 41.4 yards per possession and 3.1 points per possession.

Here's the difference in the game. Niners got 4 touchdowns in 5 red zone possessions. The Falcons got only 1 touchdown in 3 red zone possessions. 1 possession ended with the Ryan fumble and the other was the turnover on downs at the end of the game.

The vaunted Pats offense with multiple weapons and quite possibly the greatest QB in the history of the NFL got SHUTOUT in the second half of their game against a lesser defense.

I look at it this way
Ryan is still young
Julio is going to be an insane monster of a WR.
Nolan and Dirk will have another year to get players they want. Plus we actually have good coordinators now, the longer they are here the better we will be.
We are getting a new RB
We will have a new center, means our oline is
probably going to be better.
Robert McClain was a great surprise and will hopefully get signed long term.
We have a full draft this year

The only known bummer is Tony retiring.

We have a chance to have alot of good young players stepping up to break us through

A lot of people are forgetting that this is both our coordinators first year and we made it to the NFC Championship game. The team is young so I think we will do like the niners did last year and take a step forward next year

I agree. This season will be seen as the year we learned how to win in the playoffs. Next year we need to learn how to play with a lead. I certainly feel like the future is bright. Nothing is guaranteed obviously, go ask the Patriots, but I like where we are as a franchise.
