I never heard that and I doubt he said that, doesn't sound like something he would say, and I'm glad he did that. I liked Reeves and while he got us to the Super Bowl, he also did a lot of losing, what did we have, 2 winning seasons out of 7? Plus Blank really wanted to have a coach and GM, not a coach who is the GM and I completely agree.

Like I said, I like Reeves, but he wasn't taking us to the promised land, nothing like we are experiencing now.

The firing of Reeves stunted the growth of Vick. Vick had his best season with the Falcons under Reeves in his 1st year of starting. Vick got worst after Reeves was fired and it never got any better. He showed flashes of putting it altogether at different times but then would fall back into his old habits. The Falcons were a very good team in 2002. Vick got hurt in 2003 or the Falcons would have gotten the back-to-back winning seasons. Mora won 11 games with Reeves team in 2004 and then had major collapses in 2005 and 2006.

There's no doubt that Reeves was the best thing for Vick. Still wouldn't have been enough. Vick is still Vick. Plus I don't like the idea of the coach being the GM, not anymore, and Reeves wasn't going to be on board with that. Besides, if they hadn't fired Reeves we wouldn't be where we are now, and this team is far better than any of those Vick teams ever were, this is a complete team. Those teams were always missing pieces.

It's pretty unlikely Vick would have improved despite the coach. His after school activities made sure of that. Revees wasn't all that. He based his teams off on e player. Anderson goes down so does the team. Vick goes down so does the team. He couldn't build a team to save his life.

I'm not denying that. Just trying to point out that Blank isn't gonna do something stupid like firing Smith.

Dan Patrick heard some "buzz" from "some folks in Atlanta who attended the BCSNC"......

Like who? My next door neighbors are wealthy Bama fans and were at the game. Maybe it was them.

Again, it would have been the most idiotic dumb mother fucking blunder of all idiot blunders to fire Mike Smith for being 0-4 as a result of vastly over-achieving the first few years of this regime.

Can you imagine Arthur Blank doing this: "Hey Mike, I know you're the winningest coach in the history of this franchise and you have more wins in the shortest amount of time and the second most wins overall in the last 5 years out of every other coach in the NFL next to Belicheck, and I know you over-achieved and shouldn't even have sniffed the playoffs your first 2 years after a 3-13 season and going into complete rebuilding mode, but problem is, you did too well. If you didn't make the playoffs 3 out of the last 4 years and just had back to back winning seasons, I would have been happy. I mean, if you wouldn't have over-exceeded expectations, we might have only gone to the playoffs once or twice in 5 years and be only 0-1 or maybe 0-2. That would have been acceptable. But this 0-4 is just too much to take. Sorry, but next time, you might want to try to not exceed expectations so quickly."

Yeah, like I said, fucking retarded.
I reckon you can play the "Guwaff, he said folks from Atlanta so he obviously meant fans!!!" card if you want to, on the radio he said it was a few folks from the Falcons organization. But hey, take it any way you want.

First of all, where's the audio of this? I'm sure if DP actually said this there's a recording of the episode on his website. Lets hear it. Actually, if it exists, why haven't local radio hosts ever commented on it?

All I've heard is a caller or 2 say Mike Smith should have been fired if we had lost, and all the guys on Mayhem in the AM, and the afternoon redzone drive, and Archer and Bell all laughed and shot the notion down saying it was dumb because no way in hell it would have happened. Dave Archer and Wes Durham are as close to the organization as it gets and they both said its the dumbest notion ever and was never even a remote possibility.

Second, are you suggesting that Blank would actually release this kind of information to anyone? On the hierarchy chain of command for this entire organization, there's only the owner, president, and GM above Mike Smith. Are you really suggesting that one of those guys blabbed to Dan Fucking Patrick about the job status of our head coach??? Or that they blabbed it to someone else in the organization who then gave DP the scoop???

This organization won't even tell us when a player is injured and you think they're going to start passing along something like this??

Dude I know you're grasping here but give it a rest. This is crazy talk.

Step away from the ledge man, this can't be good for your health.

IDK, I heard it on the radio though. maybe DP has it on his website or something, feel free to go look for it. Or perhaps the second shooter from the grassy knoll ran off with it. /Conspiracy theory.

Great point, I'm sure that the guys that rely on the goodwill of the organization for access to players and information aren't biased at all. These are the same guys that stayed tight lipped about BVG and MM for 4 years because they didn't want to irk the organization.

I don't know what Blank would do, but I imagine if he thought he would have to replace Smith after going 0-4 he would have had the FO do their due diligence beforehand and search for a suitable replacement and TD isn't the only one that would be in on such a search. Maybe it came from TD or one of his minions, or someone that was close to Blank, or from a magic 8 ball IDK. DP didn't disclose the source and I wouldn't have expected him to. Information leaks are not unheard of, even with the Falcons as tight lipped as they are.

It's also not unheard of for people to make shit up which is far more likely in this case.
