he was 31 seconds away from having to fire Mike Smith and consider replacing Matt Ryan, I'm sure he was happy as hell.

Ummm, no. ZERO chance of Mike Smith being fired no matter what happened and ZERO consideration for replacing Matt.

You're a fairly smart guy, so not sure how you can possibly contend this. But it's not a well thought out notion.

IDK, Supposedly Dan Patrick talked to a few guys from the Falcons FO leading up to the game and the feeling was that Mike Smith was going to lose his job if he lost another PO game. Whether that is true or not IDK.

Sound like Guido with the whole "zero chance" schtick though. Wouldn't have been surprised at all if Smith got fired for losing a game after having a 20 point lead in the 4th quarter. Now we will never know one way or another.

he was also 31 seconds away from being put on notice . Blank would have given all 3 1 more year to have playoff success tho . No one was getting fired with that said winning 1 single playoff game in 5 year span is not great either

If we fire Smith, that would be the dumbest thing this organization could do.

He would literally find another HC job within 5 minutes (take note rob).

People at Cleveland, Philly, Jacksonville or San Diego would take him in a heart beat!

I don't think that getting rid of a coach that had obviously plateaued with the team (if he went 0-4) would be dumb at all. Sooner or later you have to ask yourself if regular season success is enough without progress in the playoffs. TD pulled Smith out of nowhere, sure he could do it again. I have a feeling that was one of the reasons that they extended Koetter. Not saying that Smith isn't a good coach by any means, but aside from discipline and consistency he doesn't really bring that much to the table. He isn't a Sean Payton, or a BB, or a Harbaugh, he wouldn't be incredibly hard to replace IMO.

Going 0-4 in the playoffs would have been a tremendous setback for this franchise, they have been under tremendous pressure all year and it would have been unbearable next year. If I'm Arthur Blank and my HC goes 0-4 and gets flat out embarrassed in the last 3 I'm going to have to consider whether or not my HC has what it takes to get it done. Of course, its a non issue now so there is really no point in arguing about it. As long as we don't get blown out by the 49ers Smitty should have bought himself another two years at least.

Would love to see San Diego fans if they picked up Smith LOL, the city would burn.

He could have gotten fired too, happens to GMs too, they have always said that about TD and Matty Ice, their joined at the hip, because it was TDs draft pick to draft him.

But I agree, EVERYBODY was happy as hell. Tongue It was like they pushed over the hump that had been blocking them. Big Grin

No, it's not. But considering that 5 years ago we were the bottom of the barrel, it kinda speaks about the leadership and future potential of the team as well.
