We really do need a strong and full draft this year. - FullMetalFalcon23 - 01-14-2013 07:07 PM We are going to suffer as early as next season without making some solid picks this season. We have to build a pass rush because outside if Abe it's bleak. We need another tight end but after seeing Coffman and knowing how Palmer does. I think we could take a 3rd rounder and thrive. Would love Fauria or Ertz somewhere around there. I think picks 1 and 2 have to go to the D line. With 3 and 4 being a running back and tight end. We need a violent injection. To that pass rush. I'm wary I that coming from a guy we already have. Really thought Sid would be it but he obviously has regressed as I can't imagine Nolan letting a guy who wasnt producing Rot away. I still think we have the o lineman we need. It seems like it was consistency and chemistry and execution that had them struggle more than lack of talent. I agree, I think we need to let Nolan dictate who he wants to run his scheme. Is this PJ's last year on his contract? He's made some plays this year, not made others. I don't expect to see sid back next year. Doubt Mike Pete comes back again, So I'm expecting to see another LB come in. Who else do you see leaving? McClure? his replacement is here already, we almost lost Abe this year, is he gonna retire after the year if we win the big one? I would really love to get McClure, MikeP and Abe their rings along with Tony RE: We really do need a strong and full draft this year. - AUTiger7222 - 01-14-2013 07:50 PM I think we desperately need a true nose tackle type defensive tackle. All of our defensive tackles are smaller pass rushing defensive linemen who don't take enough blockers to free up the DE's and LB's. Kroy Biermann fits to Nolan's 3-4 defense as a DE/OLB hybrid player. If we get a true nose tackle I can see the Falcons switching to a base 3-4 defense next season under Nolan. Babineaux, Peters and Walker are all guys that can play DE in a 3-4 scheme. Am I the only one that thinks a switch to a 3-4 base defense next season is a realistic possibility? We could still run the 4-3 scheme at times. But I think getting a true nose tackle would elevate the Falcons defense to one of the best in the NFL next season. The problem is we need a few other pieces, though they're easier to find. DL is of primary importance. I'd argue RG as well, though I'd like that in FA. The other area, though, is talent at the offensive positions. We have good top guys, but no depth. If HD were a randall cobb type threat (who was 5wr on GB last year) this offense would be SO much harder to stop. Imagine a back who can catch well and run well...quizzes moves but with speed and truck (SF's core, or NO's core). The key to modern offenses is having mismatches on the LBs and safeties. If that 3rd WR and 2nd TE are threats, then teams can't double RW, JJ. In fact, even in single coverage, your 3rd WR or 2nd TE are getting guarded by a LB. That's the kind of offense that needs to be here. The good thing is, you don't need Julio level talent at the 3,4,5, just 3rd level talent. Same at 2nd TE. So I'm torn, because with a TE, RB, 2WRs who are all just pretty good, this offense can be so hard to stop. But the main need is OG, DT, DE. I'd love to have touch of space in the cap, get a decent RB, WR, good OG, in FA and draft DT, DE, RB, WR. Right now would be a great time to have a plethora of 3rd rounders. We need 1st and 2nd rounders on the line, and then 4 3rd rounders at WR, WR, RB, TE. RE: We really do need a strong and full draft this year. - m2Falcons - 01-14-2013 08:26 PM We have a pick in all 7 Rds. plus likely either a 3rd and 4th, or a 4th and 5th as Comp Picks for Lofton and Weems. RE: We really do need a strong and full draft this year. - Beef - 01-14-2013 08:47 PM Aub TE Philip Lutzenkirchen should still be there at our 4th pick. If RB's Bernard, Ball, or Lacy are still there at our 1st round pick, I think we take one. Turner ran well only 2 out of 17 games this year and that's just unacceptable. Quizz needs a counterpart and Turner and Snelling are not it. We need a back who is a home run threat on any given play. Oddly enough, Quizz is more of a wear em down back. But he's just not fast enough to pull away and not be caught. We absolutely do need a DE though. I think we're set at DT with Peters, Jerry, Babs, Walker, and Robertson. We're not going to draft a huge NT. you guys should forget that. It ain't happening. We can run a solid hybrid without one with how Nolan does things. And we don't have enough of the proper personnel and depth to change our base package to 3-4. It would take an overhaul and that's unnecessary. Our 1, 2, and 3 picks will be any combination of RB, DE, and OL or LB... and probably LB more so than OL. I think our FA move will be either OL or LB depending on which ever we don't draft. We traded our 7th for Asante, but yes we have a couple comps. We might even have a 3rd comp after releasing Edwards, but I'm not sure about that. RE: We really do need a strong and full draft this year. - Xanthri - 01-14-2013 08:53 PM We don't need to choose a WR anywhere above the 5th round...my bet is we could find solid talent there undrafted....a RB always slips to the 4th or 5th.....we need to build the D-line and LB corps....it would be nice to get a return specialist who could play DB or WR decently.....I have great faith in TD and Smitty....I am still hoping Jerry does something....like the Baker turn around....but that might be a bit much to ask....unfortunately we will have the #32 pick and unless someone is dying to get into that position....the D-line may be thin by then......we might get lucky with an OG (not that we need one...this is just a position that tends to slide) or tweener (LB/DE - more of a LB). As far as TE we will NOT find a Tony G replacement....we just need to find a decent reliable guy and hope he pans out....there are lots of guys that people thought would be the next big TE and they never paid out.....better to choose a couple of good character tough guys in the later rounds and hope. Also we can always bring Quiz brother James back in for a tryout....he really has a remarkable set of hands.....I am sure we let him go simply due to his size but make no mistake he could be used like a wes welker (not saying he is that fast...but he is good) RE: We really do need a strong and full draft this year. - AUTiger7222 - 01-14-2013 09:32 PM (01-14-2013 08:47 PM)Beef Wrote: Aub TE Philip Lutzenkirchen should still be there at our 4th pick. We won't get anything for Edwards because he was not an offseason move and he wasn't traded, and I doubt we'll get a pick for Weems because he really hasn't done much. However, I fully expect either a 3rd or 4th rounder for Lofton. |
