The reason we lost this game (MEGAMERGERAMA)
Its not Hartley.
Its because of two things. Turnovers, and lack of a run game.
Those two are the keys to this teams success last year and neithero ccurred. This team must find a way to get the rungame going. They need to protect the ball better. Losing the turnover battle usually loses the game.
THIS IS NOT HARTLEY's FAULT.
If you try to make it one guy's fault, then youd make a REALLY bad head coach.

yep
we couldn't get them off the field on third or fourth down
our defense got zero turnovers
our offense turned the ball over 3 times(2ints and turn over on downs)
so yeah it was a TEAM LOSS

Im sick of everyone laying the blame on the kicker. He has the most potentially game WINING play but not the only essential one. A sloppy game played by all players is no excuse to cut a kicker. In fact I think it would be a great mistake to cut Hartley.

Who lost the game for us...
The obvious choice is Heartless but Sean Payton's play calling is becoming like in 08 when Bree's had 5200 yards. You have to have BALANCE. We can't just run in overtime when we haven't most of the game. On 3rd down Brees was getting hit because it was obvious. You look at the Falcons and on 1st and 2nd down they ran and got 1-3 yards. Did they shy away from it, NO! We need to go back to last year stats unless Payton loves the 8-8 record we posted in 08

1. Drew threw a stupid, easily avoided interception, which led to points.

2. We did nothing to stop Tony Gonzalez, and he extended too many drives.

3. Our defense was worn out, and they ran it too well against us in the 4th quarter & OT.

4. Hartley missed a very makeable field goal in overtime.

THAT'S why we lost.

Yeah! I'm sure it's not the kickers fault. Chip shots are very difficult to make.

Inability to cover Gonzalez. Inability to cover the RB out on the flats. Inability to keep pressure on the QB. Inability to stop the run. Kicking on 1st down. Missing that kick on 1st down. There's your game.

i don't want to come off as a jerk, so please don't take it that way but you lost due to sean peyton. he's been playing not to lose the game instead of playing to win. its the same reason jet fans grew to dislike herman edwards so much. after having a 1st and 10 from the 12 he should have let brees go for a TD or at least try to run it. he did it last week too but you won. could have went for the TD to end the game but didn't and the niners tied it up. luckly you have brees who drove you down to win it anyway, this week brees never got the chance

Hartley missed the 29 yarder. That is his fault because the hold protection and the placement on the hash were fine. Overall, however, our defense was dominated for most of this game and we were also losing a lot of battles on the offensive line of scrimmage. Frankly, we were fortunate that Lance Moore had a great game today. He kept us in this game. Pass and run blocking were well below average. Falcons just beat us in this game.

Lightbulb Pure & Simple... We just need to play better football.
While Hartley is clearly going to get blasted after this game, it never should have come down to that kick. (Frankly, I still think that he's not comfortable with his new holder, but that's another story.)

The real story of this game is that Atlanta moved the ball (almost at will) and the Saints turned it over uncharacteristically and could not catch passes when needed.

We have been greatly affected by injuries in this early season and that has no doubt set us back, but I see breakdowns with our execution and our defense needs to find a way to get better QB pressure and run stoppage.

We're still one of the better teams in the league and we will be contending once again. In fact, there is no reason why we shouldn't be undefeated, but it is what it is.

Yes, there is lots to complain about, but rather than complain and whine, I'm gonna sit back and see how the Saints will respond to this latest adversity and be ready to cheer them on next week.

We'll get this fixed. We're not out of this thing.

Falcons deserved to win. We were dominated on the line of scrimmage, could not run the ball, and could not stop Gonzalez. Hartley should've made the field goal, but even if he had I would not feel good about this win.

This is clearly not the same team as last year, and hopefully this will be a big wake-up call.

Agreed. The Saints have been getting away with winning despite playing below-average football. I think everyone, fans and players, started to believe they could bring the D- game and beat teams A games.

The good news is, it took what will probably be Atlanta's best game of the season to beat an awful looking Saints team.

I think this is going to prove to be a wake up call and the Saints are going to have quite the fire lit under them.

There is something a little off with the team and I hope this L helps them to refocus and discover what that is.

we did not have a play maker besides Brees in the Backfield. The Falcons did not fear PT. They did not respect our run game one bit. Payton know that. Thank god with have a few games against easier competition.

The reasons you state are the reasons why the game was tied.

Hartley is the reason we were unable to win it.

It's real simple.

Despite all the ways Atlanta played well, we were tied with the opportunity to win if a professional kicker hits a 29 yarder.

He's proven he has an issue with knuckling short kicks. Without the block last week, he misses that one too.

He's kicking ugly and you have to be careful that he just loses it mentally.

Often I would agree. Here though when you have the ball on the ten and a kick to win the game, and he shanks it, I can put the blame on the kicker

Turnovers. 3 turnovers that took points off the board for us. Yeah Harltey missed, Sean should have kicked on 4th down, we let Gonzales kill us, but if we don't turn the ball over we will walking away winning.

defense defense defense. our defense can't get off the field enough. the falcons at a point in the game were doing whatever they damn well please. all i can think of are those 2 4th down calls that the falcons made in one drive! the defense just isn't good enough if they don't get the turnovers. the falcons had the recipe for success run the ball and throw it to the TE. almost no pressure on ryan for most of the game.

not enough speed with our LB's is really going to be something that loses us some games this year as well. breakdowns in coverage are something of a problem as well. hell gonzo was so open at times it was unbelievable. the guy is killing us all game and yall leave him open? piss poor effort.

Sorry, but a when a kicker misses a 29 yard GW field goal, thats the reason why the Saints lost. That's all and that's it. The defense forced a punt when they needed to, the offense drove the ball down the field when they needed to.

All the rest of the noise is because the Saints just played a playoff, division rival and is to be expected.
