This is far from the worst loss the Falcons have ever had. But I will say it's one of our 5 worst losses of the last 5 years. That Eagles game in 2009 had to be one of the worst too. Yea that game was just all around brutal. The Panthers game yesterday sucked but oddly enough if we got the correct call on that 2 point conversion we would have made it a one possession game. No way anyone could really call a game where we almost got it to a single possession late "The worst loss in franchise history" We actually came back fairly well. Keithbrooking56 must have completely forgot the 80's or parts of the 90's. It was a little shocking to see how far out of hand we let it go in the first half but it was not even anywhere near close to the worst loss in the franchise. We've had seasons where nearly EVERY game was as bad as the Panther game and we were lucky to only lose by 10. RE: Man, the fans are nearly pathetic right now. - FullMetalFalcon23 - 12-10-2012 01:55 PM The thing that bugged and amused me was how nonplussed the entire squad was. No panic no arguing no spoon getting in the D's faces and no Roddy trying to set things off. Normally those are things we see from this team. Win or lose. No instead we saw Davis and Cone get reps on O. Whilst Harry was still on the field. Which I thought was odd. We saw receivers lined up in the back field. I tell you it is of both comfort an distress to me that this team had a preseason game type attitude towards this one. They weren't up for having their feathers be ruffled or return the favour. And then the offense turned on the execution. By this point d was tired and succumbed to the sloppiness they demonstarated all day. Further more we just seemed to accept that this was to be a loss and that they should go out there and execute still. I think we need to come out in the no huddle. Get a jump on the game set the tempo rather than get a feel for the tempo. It's a weapon that has been so good to us in a worse offense and its been very effective in this better one. RE: Man, the fans are nearly pathetic right now. - UCSBDirtyBird - 12-10-2012 02:30 PM I won't be bothered by this game if it serves as a spark and the Falcons start playing angry. They need to let the Giants know this is not last year. I don't need a blowout, but enough of the missed tackles, enough of the 1 second pocket, and enough of the 2 yard runs on 1st and 2nd down. This game was a letdown, but hopefully it wasn't the exposure of who the Falcons really are. I can't really feel bad. I mean, yesterday was the Panther's Superbowl. There is nothing left in their season to get pumped up for. The Falcons came out flat and then limited what they could do after the first half donut. Bad games happen. From here on out is when we learn about the Falcons. Ryan and Turner didn't play in that game and half the idiots in the stands cheered for Vick and it was sickening to see Vick get those touchdowns. Also Falcons almost got shutout in the Dome, which has still never happened thankfully, but Redman threw a last second touchdown to Roddy. I would say the top 5 worst losses in no particular order are these: 2009 Game vs. Eagles 2010 Playoff Game vs. Packers 2011 Game vs. Saints 2011 Playoff Game vs. Giants 2012 Game vs. Panthers RE: Man, the fans are nearly pathetic right now. - Aftermath - 12-10-2012 02:36 PM If we don't get this fan issue fixed, and fixed soon, no way we win in the playoffs. Giants turned their fanbase around last year, hopefully we can do it too! It was like it was a preseason scrimmage. You must have lost your memory cause I remember alot of Falcons teams simply laying down for seasons at a time. I disagree. When I made that post right after Newton ran that long touchdown we were down 23-0 at that point and our defense had been on the field almost literally the entire game. I can't remember any game where we were so thoroughly dominated in one half like that. What's worse to me was the utter lack of fight, character or spirit I saw until late in the 3rd quarter when guys decided to finally show up for the game. You don't have to be a homer. That effort we saw was putrid beyond belief. RE: Man, the fans are nearly pathetic right now. - swanlee - 12-11-2012 08:43 AM (12-10-2012 11:28 PM)keithbrooking56 Wrote: I disagree. A bad effort in one half does not equate the worst loss in franchise history. Seriously you lack perspective and were going over board and projecting a knee jerk reaction if you think that. We've had ENTIRE seasons that resembled the first half against Carolina. There is no need to be overly hyperbolic towards a single loss, it sucked, no one is happy about, we as fans can't do anything about it but it seems their is a complete inability for a lot of people to maintain any type of perspective. Seriously you lack perspective and were going over board and projecting a knee jerk reaction if you think that. And what perspective am I lacking here? I didn't say the season was in shambles because of one loss. I didn't say we were doomed to lose again in the playoffs because of one loss. I correctly called out a monumental lack of effort and fight. This isn't supposed to be the "Same Ol' Falcons" any more if you recall. This team under Blank, TD and Smith is supposed to be about putting a championship level team on the field. The effort we saw was simply horrible in the Carolina game. I've been a fan long enough to see the Falcons have those 3-13 years but those teams usually fought but due to a talent/coaching gap it didn't really matter. That is not the same as just not bothering to show up which I think any fan will admit is what we saw from this team for basically three quarters against Carolina. I don't know if our boys were looking a week ahead to the Giants but there's no excuse to not show any fight. I can deal with losing like the Saints game where we tried but that debacle against Carolina? I'll call that out every time. |
