At the end of the day it's still football. It's not like in the playoffs they change the game to something else. It's still the same game with same exact rules played on the same exact field. So this perception that Ryan and the Falcons can't win in the playoffs is completely stupid. Most people don't want to consider matchups, who the competition was etc... I always tell them it's an illogical position to take as they are saying the Falcons can't because they haven't even though history is filled with examples of teams that didn't until they did. To say they haven't is fact to say they can't because they haven't is asinine. RE: Barnwell: It is time to take Ryan and the Falcons seriously - juraitwaluzka - 12-01-2012 01:17 AM So today, a 49ers fan tells me the Falcons will lose their first playoff game, not because of history, but because he doesn't think they are that good. This, however, is great news as this guy thinks only with his emotions and he is _always_ wrong. We're a lock now as far as I'm concerned

But will we? Smith has never had these guys clicking on all cylinders, despite the enormous amount of talent that we have on both sides of the ball. Yeah we have potential, but you can't get to the SB based on potential. Sooner or later you actually have to live up to that potential if you want to get where you are going. Its all about preparation for the playoffs. They have been saying for weeks now that we need to get oue run game going on both sides of the ball. The last 2 weeks has shown massive improvement in both of those fields. If we keep it going, then defenses nor offense can key in one thing once we are in the playoffs. We have the luxury of practicing while we play because we have such a good lead and we are a shoein for the playoffs. RE: Barnwell: It is time to take Ryan and the Falcons seriously - Drathdon - 12-01-2012 02:58 AM Aftermath, we force what we are bad at to improve it. You can't get better without putting the work in. Why keep doing what we do good if we will need to do the other stuff at some point? We have a lead, which gives us the luxury to keep putting in reps to improve areas we need improvement in. I see nothing wrong with that, especially when we are still doing enough to win while improving our flaws. People said we couldn't stop the run, and we did better against TB than anyone. People said NO's offense could not be kept off the board, and we played conservative, no turnover or risk offense, to give our D every inch it needed, and they performed what 54 teams before them could not. This has been a great year, and you are really looking at it through too clouded a pessimistic view. Shame you can't relax and enjoy this year unlike any other we have had. The don't come around like this often. And yet again today I heard the same line on ESPN of "The Falcons don't know if what kind of team they are. Are they a power running team with Michael Turner or are they a spread the field passing team?" How lame is that? The same shit over and over and over again. We've shown massive improvements in our running game the last 2 weeks and after weeks of hearing we need to improve the run game it's back to we don't know what kind of offensive team we are? Really? Really?Know what kind of team we are? We are a team that wins. We win when we lose the turnover battle. We win when we don't. We win with the passing game. We win with the running game. We win with our defense. We win when our defense is off. We just win. We have won more than any other team this year. We just win. RE: Barnwell: It is time to take Ryan and the Falcons seriously - RnB - 12-02-2012 01:11 PM This was a pretty good article. I have seen it pop up in a few different places and hope it gets more exposure. It won't change anything regarding the media but any time someone expands on why the media is full of clueless assholes, I can dig it. The playoff thing is a prime example of how retarded sports media is. The media directly impacts how casual fans view the NFL and all the teams; so when they deliberately act like idiots, filter articles to insure "popular" franchises get most of the media attention, or lie through omission to garner ratings or page hits, it really impacts the fan perception. Considering that there is close to a monopoly on mainstream NFL news by the NFL Network and ESPN, I feel like they cause more problems in today's NFL than they are worth. Its a fucking shame that Matt and the rest of our guys don't get the attention, nationally, that they deserve but ultimately it doesn't affect how well we do. They can keep drumming up new hurdles our team and players must overcome before they are taken seriously. Fuck em; I have faith that those hurdles will be jumped. I do NOT have faith that the sports media will ever stop being so terrible. |
