I like our playbook and it was working well at the start of the game. I thought the problem was we started to try to force the passing game...when there was no reason to. Turner and Quiz were averaging 11 yards per carry....why stop? Then after Roddy didn't get the PI call (and he should have) we stopped all deep throws....at that point the Saint loaded the box, stopped the run and short passes and we went flat.....I think had we taken a few good shots down the field they would have had to spread their defense more and we could have continued to run and make short passes......

Just my 2 cents....but I felt like we were running so well....that Koetter said WE NEED TO PASS MORE.....and then we went to 3 passes and out......

our playbook works when we use it and keep using what works....the minute we start to try to force a facet of the game we end up stagnating....we ran well against the Bucs....but their weakness was the secondary....we should have passed first there.....tonight the runs were working brilliantly......we looked like a juggernaut marching down the field....then we ran a couple of more and stopped running for the next 3-4 series......

Offense played tight, and Matt seemed determined to never put the ball in a position to where it could get intercepted. Basically, that initial 17 points held up, so the thought that anything, even 3-and-outs, would be better than a turnover, which would not give our D a chance to hold that lead.

It worked, so in hindsight, I'm perfectly fine with everything we did! I hope we just learn from it, and carry those lessons forward.

I don't think they were ok with 3 and outs....if they were we are gonna get killed in the playoffs....no lead is safe....I am not saying you need to run the score up to 59....but one of these days....maybe perhaps the superbowl we need to tell Matty Ice and company that they need to score as many as the can and we need to put up 60+ points......I would absolutely love to find out that smitty has been holding Koetter back from blowing people out because he doesn't want people to fear us......he wants them to underestimate us.....that would be nice...

Seems like ANYTHING I say here nowadays, you chime in with a contradiction.

That play on the Sproles TD was absolutely the correct and obvious call. I was listening to Wes and Archer on the radio and they BOTH called out the O lineman blocking 3 or 4 yards past the line even before the play was over and the penalty was announced. It was that obvious.

It was horrible play calling on the offensive side. We missed converting 6 straight 3rd downs. The last 4 missed conversions were virtually identical. Run Turner on 1st down and then a screen to Snelling on 3rd and 8.

Roddy got as many targets tonight as Snelling.

Turner, Snelling, and Douglas got as many touches/targets as Julio, Roddy, Gonzo, and Quizz.

If you don't see a problem with that, then please don't comment.

Beef, I'm 100% with you on every point. On what was actually a good play call, except it was with Turner instead of Quizz, Douglas totally whiffed on his block that would have sealed the edge on the toss sweep in the red zone. I don't care if we draft or sign one, but we need a new #3 WR next year, Douglas is non-existent.

Other than that, on every first down we ran it with Turner like it was expected of us. And on 3rd down, whether it be 3rd and 16 or 3rd and 5, Ryan threw it to an underneath receiver well short of the first down marker. You DO NOT win football games like that. I understand that in real life, as opposed to video games, teams don't have many play calls available to pick up 3rd and longs, but you've got to take some shots.

I missed all but the last 4 minutes of the first half because of a birthday dinner, but from that point until the clock ran out I had zero faith on any given play that we could gain a single yard. It was pathetic. I've felt like this for years with this team.

I don't want to find that out. Because that means Smith is playing to lose, and then I want his head on a spike. I want this team to impose its will on opposing teams and score at will.

I would not say Smitty was playing to lose. I would say he might be overgaming it......my friend was saying he heard somewhere that both Smith and Matt Ryan like to keep it close.....i don't know why or where he heard that (he is from ATL and has some folks who work around and in the organization)

Bottomline is he is winning and no one is calling for his head....unless we get absolutely embarrassed yet another time in the playoffs against a team we should be able to compete with....I don't think he would lose his job....but Blank would be ticked off.....

The Falcons strength this year has been converting the 3rd and longs.

The Saints secondary has improved considerably and controlled our superstar WRs last night. We got the run game humming lets reawake the passing game.
