As long as we get him back for the stretch run and the playoffs I am okay with sitting him until healthy.....I think we screwed the pooch letting Julio play today....I know he wants to help but honestly he didn't do much and Harry D did a decent job in his absence.....we have to be smart and work to get as healthy as we can in the next 6 weeks......we need the SF 49ers to beat the bears and give us a little breathing room on sealing up the number one seed.....

I think Mcclain saved our season, when Grimes went down if none of the other CB's stepped up we'd be screwed. Mcclain will hopefully be around for along time.

The decision will come down to McClain v Grimes in the spring. If Grimes is healthy and wants to take a paycut then maybe. But McClain might want big bucks and might not be worth it if he shows regress after the payday. Either way he is younger and playing lights out.

Isn't McClain on a 2 year deal? I thought I heard he was.

Nope, his contract is up after this season. I'm thinking we can probably get him for 3-6 mill a year. I honestly believe we're just going to let Grimes walk.

Yup... Grimes will be gone. We just spent a shit load of money on him for a few plays. There was a reason why we didn't do a long term contract. Now he has to prove to someone else that he can stay healthy. Not our problem. McClain will be extended with us. He's been everything you'd hope a backup would be. He is starter material. With more work and game time he will only get better.

I don't think he will want a monster pay day. He is playing great football. Dedicated football tough he hits and covers. We would do well to sign him to a 4 year deal with incentives.

He isn't bringing in turn overs. But he is being solid in all phases. Think about look at the year DeCoud had. He could have made more money but we locked him up with a good deal.

I think we take mcClain and his upside over Grimes and his health question marks if Grimes is asking for too much having not played ball for a long time now. Best case scenario we bring them both back allowing us to have a strong present secondary and also a foundation piece to the secondary in the next two to three years when at least Dunta or Samuel would have truly declined/retired.

My personal preference however would be

Samuel
McClain
Robinson
Owens (quietly solid this year)
Draft pick with definite starter potential

By 2015 season some combo of McClain Draft pick and Owens (continued solid play) being our top 3 corners with Dunta and another rookie in the mix there as well for time in that nickel spot.
