Short yardage solutions - ggp - 11-11-2012 09:44 PM
Go ahead, take your best shot. Give me suggestions of how to improve our short yardage run game. Make your suggestions realistic. Simply saying that the solution is chopping Turner's head off is not valid. Come on, use your brains (or what passes for brains) to create a solution to this problem.

Bitch slap the entire OL before each series and then maybe they'll stop getting blown up on every running play.

Power formation, Turner up the middle....oh wait.

Ready for this?
This group of individuals on the field at our skill sets:
Matt Ryan, Jason Snelling, Roddy White, Harry Douglas, Julio Jones, Tony G.
Matt Ryan needs to be directly under center. Jason Snelling will be a lone back. That will give us 3 things we desperately need on the field in terms of the ability to get 3rd down conversions: A slot receiver who has the heat taken off them thanks to White and Julio, Tony Gonzalez who is ALWAYS a consistent 3rd down target and Jason Snelling: A power back who is also a huge threat in the receiving game.
I can't see how this isn't an idea that has already crossed our coaches minds. If the defense looks like they are defending the pass then we can try to ram the football right down their throats. If they are defending the run, we use a short or deep pass play with Snelling coming out of the backfield. There's no reason why we shouldn't be able convert a 3rd down of any distance with that package. I know people will call for Rodgers but I don't think he's the answer to a 3rd and short, perhaps a 3rd and long he could be. I'm just not sure why we aren't using Snelling the way we have in the past.
And this silly bullshit with an offensive tackle as an eligible receiver needs to stop. It worked a couple times for us so far, but it doesn't fool anyone. This isn't college football.

3 words: Jason. Fucking. Snelling.

We are better at converting 3rd and long. We should have forced a penalty to back us up. We'd then get the TD.

We could have Jesus (yes pun intended) playing running back and it wouldn't matter with the way the OL gets blown up in short yardage situations.

Make everything revolve around our passing game. Draw plays in 3 or more WR set, because it simply isn't happening any other way with our ground game.

If we are going to run in thee 3rd and 1 or 3rd and goals they need to have 3 WR and Gonzo split out or be in shotgun and draw these 3 TE sets dont work

Roddy on the left, on the line and in tight. Same for Julio on the left. Matt under center, Cox directly behind him. Behind Cox, Turner and Snelling. Wishbone formation.
