RE: Thanks Michael Turner - Jesus - 11-12-2012 01:09 PM He's thinking too much. That is something any football coach will point out. When a player is confused or trying to figure it out he is slow and dances. This goes back to pee-wee levels. He is dancing before the hole because he is thinking too much. He needs to take some time off with Ricky Williams and learn to let go, use his instincts more when running. The holes are there but he is too tentative. Quizz looked pretty good the last two weeks. RE: Thanks Michael Turner - FireDawg85 - 11-12-2012 02:13 PM Watch Turner when he first got to ATL. He use to hit holes so hard. Now.... Tippy-Toe Turner RE: Thanks Michael Turner - phocis850 - 11-12-2012 02:25 PM Turner ran for positive yards on the outside once this year. Bunch the middle and make him try and turn the corner equals success for the opposing D. There is nothing there. Our problems are not just #33. I completely agree. It's pissing me off that I'm fighting against an army trying to stick up for Turner when on one is wanting to blame the OL. Not damn right up the middle because we can't block right up the middle because McClure is done and has been for 2 or 3 years now. I don't understand why Rodgers has only 3 carriers in each of the last 2 games. WTF? Thanks Michael Turner - juraitwaluzka - 11-12-2012 02:39 PM (11-12-2012 11:03 AM)The Birds Are The Truth!!!!!! At this point who's fault it is doesn't matter. But it is clear that what we are doing isn't working. We are not going to overhaul the line mid season and given that the pass blocking has been decent we are not going to bench anyone on the line either. That only leaves one thing - try someone other than Turner in short yardage situations. Maybe something will work maybe not, but it can't really be worse than what we have been seeing. On the other hand if we change nothing then nothing will change. RE: Thanks Michael Turner - Beef - 11-12-2012 07:25 PM It feels like you guys who are defending Turner are doing so because of all the good he's done for this team the past 4 years and ignoring the eye test of what's happening today. The eye test, nothing else, tells me that he's slow to get to the holes and then he bangs around in them and falls down very easy. I've gone back and watched in slow motion several games now just to make sure i'm not crackin on Turner for no reason. But our OL does open up some holes with the initial push. The problem is they often get pushed right back and things collapse a bit faster than you would like. And the problem I'm seeing is by the time Turner reaches the line, things have started collapsing backwards and the holes are too small for his massive body to fit through without banging off someone and slowing down even further. And by this time, there's several defenders with arms on him and now he's almost at a complete stop. And by this time, he's gone 1-2 yards and now the entire defense is on him. I love the guy and appreciate everything he's done for us, but with our very average run blocking OL, we need a RB who can shoot into those holes before they close and not fall down as soon as a hand touches their legs. I mean can you seriously not see a HUGE difference in speed and momentum when Ingram or Ivory ran the ball yesterday? It's not even remotely freaking close. When those guys are at the line and shooting through holes, Turner is still two steps behind. All you need is the eye test here fellas. It's nothing personal against Turner. I truely wish he were faster and I wasn't seeing what I'm seeing, but I can't ignore it and be honest. Nobody is saying Turner hasn't declined a ton over the past year. But go back to the play at the end of the game. There was never any hole. Not one hole. No push whatsoever. No running back would have made it to the end zone on that play. There are far too many running plays like that. RE: Thanks Michael Turner - Jesus - 11-12-2012 11:07 PM We've got to be more aggressive. Everyone in the world knew we would send Turner up the middle or throw to Tony in the endzone. Why not spread the field and run Ryan up the middle or a quick slant to Roddy? Why not throw it to the extra blocker again? Why not use misdirection and send Turner over the tackle? Why not play action pass to Cox or Palmer? Or hand it to Julio and have him go around the end or jump over the pile? We gave them exactly what they wanted and they stopped it. The Falcons can't complain about that. |
