Our needs going into next year draft and FAs - evo - 09-19-2012 12:34 PM

For right now it seems like next year going to be another busy year for TD. Doesnt matter how this season fall out, our team already have several holes that need to address next year.

Matt Ryan going into his last contract year, Will he get his big payday?

Mike Turner slowing down, and we need a major upgrade with our RBs. Will he be resign to a cheap deal, or will we cut him and go for another RB? if we do, where do you see us going, drafting one or signing another upcoming rb?

Tony Gonzales said this is his last year playing, So will Micheal Palmer run the show or we will draft/sign another TE? (i highly doubt we go with Palmer).

CBs, Grimes coming off a season ending injury and in his 30s, Ansante not getting any younger. How will we go about this situation? Will we resign Grimes to a cheap contract? or letting him go and draft/sign(yes sign another FA cornerback) a CB?

At LB, we are set with our OLB but will we put faith on Dent and give him another year to develop?

Last but not least DEs, Ray Edward is no where to be found, John is old as dirt, Beirman is finally showing signs, Massqoui and Sidbury is still not ready yet. Will we go for a big name in FA??

That's 5 Position of needs right there, and Matt Ryan will be resign no matter what. What are your 2cent on this? Nonetheless its going to be an interesting for us to watch.

one danger of jumping the gun is getting shot in the ass

Just have to wait and see how the FO and coaching staff approach it after the season. Matt is going to get paid for sure. Its useless to worry about a RB until our OLine shows that they can run block. The same with the DLine, until we know how they operate under Nolan over an entire year it is hard to say if we need to approach overhauling the DLine or stick with what we have.

Corner seems to always be the sticking point and it is even more unpredictable now that we have the Grimes injury and an older CB starting for us; whether we try to draft DBs or steal them away from some other team remains to be seen, I am pretty confident it is still a major area of emphasis for us going forward.

I don't think the LB corps is going to see major changes. Again, you need a season under the new defense to evaluate Dent. This is his first year as a "starter" but he still sees less playing time than he would have in our old defense. It is too early to tell if Nolan really wants a third star LB for depth or at the MLB slot.

I'm curious to see how Sidbury does in the new scheme. It was good to see him get a few meaningful snaps the other night.

The first 3 picks next draft could/should be these 3 and in no particular order: TE, CB, RB.

After that it's LB, DE, and OL depth.

Matt already makes a crap ton of money. Not sure where the "big pay day" notion is coming from. We will give him a very long contract, like 7+ years, but only slightly more than he is making now.

Grimes, IMO, is gone. It really sucks that we will likely not get a thing for him either. He'll just go be a UFA and someone will gobble him up. And with as athletic as he is, he'll recover just fine and play at a very high level again, but for some other team.

I agree that I think our top 3 picks needs to be RB, TE, CB in no particular order.

the injury didn't do anything but improve our chance of getting grimes back, coming off from a season ending injury and being on the wrong side of 30, if TD can work out his magic again, we can have Grime for a decent price.

Not sure if the wife will stand for that.

If she wont stand for that then she will stand on the street. Her choice.
