Good info thanks. I may not be giving the Broncos defense enough credit. They may eventually be a top 10 or top 5 defense. But we'll find out a good bit more about them on Sunday because the Texans have a very good offense too. Let's see how they play them. Especially their running game. I wouldn't be upset if we were getting 4 or 5 yards a carry instead of 1 or 2 yards carry setting us up in 3rd and longs for most of the 2nd half. The running game must improve if we are to play this style of offense against the teams with the good offenses. 67 yards on 28 carries isn't nearly good enough. RE: Running The Ball - FullMetalFalcon23 - 09-19-2012 05:24 PM I think the Texans will have more consistent success against the broncos. I believe they are the most balanced offense in the NFL. Their pick your poison is just that bit much better than ours because of their run game. Foster and Tate in the back field both receivers also. They have a very good quarterback a tight end and a solid group of receivers led by Andre Johnson. They run well and pass well. Houston is a Julio Jones opposite Johnson away from being one of the toughest teams to play against. Atlanta should have been set to be that way this year and could still be if our ground game ever shows up. But just as our pass game is dynamic so to does our run game need to be. When you can split 400 yards between you rush and pass game it makes a far better football team. Forget amount fantasy but when production is coming from both sources consistently and equally at a high level. That is fantastic football that's what we need to get to I think that is the new trend in football. It requires unselfish players to buy into the system. To put their own glories and career achievements aside to bring in championships. I completely agree. That's why I think if the Falcons can land a back like Andre Ellington who runs with both power and speed and can catch it too we would be so much better offensively. RE: Running The Ball - FullMetalFalcon23 - 09-19-2012 06:32 PM I looked him up. I do like his style as a back. I think a zone blOclong compatible back is what we need but he finds the the whole at pace and accelerates through it. A mate of mine spent a year on the Chargers practice squad. It was the year before San Diego played New Orleans here in London. And he said LT was at significant speed by the time he took the hand off and the moment he hit the hole the jets were on. Turner takes to long get going we need a back is smart and patient enough to feel the hole and athletically gifted enough to make the play. If Mike hit the hole with more conviction he would get his 4 yards off of momentum and falling forwards. He goes down incredibly easy at times. And it seems to me that a lower speeds his balance is poor. As he gets going on a run I've seen him recover and adjust far better than he does when in traffic. I want a 225 to 230lb back with a blend of speed power agility reaction and quickness RE: Running The Ball - Jesus - 09-19-2012 07:28 PM We all want a good back. Turner is fine and will run well this year. He has no choice he has no license. The run game will be fine. Turner has been one of the best backs in the NFL over the past 4 years. He will be our all time leading rusher. Im glad he has these bad games early in the year. They usually happen in the middle of the year. I just don't see him getting there this year and I don't think he'll be in a Falcons uniform next year. If we held Turner to the few bad games he has every year than he wouldn't be anything. He's only 30. His last run Monday night shows how much he as left. He was quick and tough. The line is having trouble opening lines. I have faith that Koetter and Hill can put together better run blocking schemes. the problem is the Chargers have the best run in the NFL. They have allowed 83 yards and 2.3 yards per carry. Then again they've played 2 awful teams. Turner will break out it will come soon. RE: Running The Ball - ATLBound - 09-20-2012 08:04 AM A misconception is that the playaction affects just tge secondary. A playaction affects all levels of the defense. The D-line and LB were playing run or blitzing like crazy and the S were playing pass regardless. When the running game isn't working, then playaction won't affect the S but it can still have an affect on the D-line and the LB's. This is why Tony G had a productive game and more passes were done in the 7 - 15 yard range. If Safetied aren't biting, then no need to risk a deep pass into double coverage. A turnover does more than just lose possession, it also loses momentum. Also with all the weapons we have on offense, why throw into double coverage deep when we have single coverage underneath that can win consistently. RE: Running The Ball - RnB - 09-24-2012 10:02 AM Pat Y put up a stat that may give you some idea of what running the ball does for our team. I normally won't bump old topics like this, but I feel like you simply don't understand how much of an impact those 2-3 yard running plays have. Hopefully this will help you see how important running the ball is. Continuing to run the ball, even if you only get a couple yards, forces the defense to adjust. Not just on deep routes; their playcalling and scheme are heavily affected by what they see on the field. "Against San Diego, Ryan completed all seven pass attempts of play action for 67 yards and a touchdown." The running game was much better against the Chargers and allowed for us to take deeper shots down the field. |
