Just reporting what the coaches said. I really think they wanted someone to step up and win that job, but Franks is gone and Toone is probably gone too and so it will be back to the drawing board.

It would not be suprising to me to see the Falcons to pick up a WR from the waiver wire and, if they can field punts, that might be the ticket.

There are several out there right now. I know the Saints will be forced to cut at least a couple of very good ones. They have already said that Adrian Arrington will be making the team, so that means Joseph Morgan, rookie Nick Toon or special teamer and decent WR Courtney Roby could hit the wire. Roby is a stud on kick and coverage teams and could make a viable #3 on several teams in the league.

Morgan could be protected by IR as he is banged up. I really think the Saints want to keep Toon on the practice squad, but he'll have to clear waivers.

Shows all the Falcons cuts.

Honestly, I never think of Zelenka. But really, a position just for someone to snap a ball longer?

Kerry Meier cut according to DOL
Well injury waived whatever that means

Not only is he a very good ball carrier, but he has excellent hands out of the backfield and fields both kickoffs and punts. He has enough versatility to open up at least one, if not two roster spots for depth elsewhere. I really like Ivory, but he simply isn't as versatile. He should be excellent trade bait, though, to help fill another hole. LB seems to be the most likely target as all others are quite deep with talent ... and health. Possibly CB.

Interesting picture. Hope you didn't too much time making it because it makes no sense.

Wow . . . didn't see that coming. What a disappointment.

So where do you guys think Cooley will land? There's a yahoo article about him fitting with the Falcons

RE: League Cut Thread - USAF HART - 09-05-2012 08:14 AM

I called Meier getting cut when he missed the first two pre-season games. The guy was just NEVER on the field. You can't hold a roster spot that has been on the team for a few years and has seen the field maybe a handful of times. Injuries or not, it was time to move on from him.

As far as Chris Cooley goes, I don't really know why he was released (maybe salary cap casualty), but if it was anything other than monetary reasons, I don't want him here.

Cooley always seemed to be a great contributor for first downs and yardage, but he hasn't really been the guy to throw to in the Red Zone in a few years, not anywhere near as close to what he was. You don't need to pay Cooley when you have a guy like Fred Davis doing work at the position.
