The Atlanta has signed QB Luke McCown and cut Chris Redman - Anomaly - 08-28-2012 01:49 PM

Quote:The Atlanta Falcons today announced that they have signed quarterback Luke McCown and released quarterback Chris Redman.

McCown, 6-3, 212 pounds, was originally selected as a fourth round draft choice (106 overall) by the Cleveland Browns in the 2004 NFL Draft. McCown has seen action in 20 games, including nine starts during his career and has completed 184 of 316 pass attempts for 2,035 yards with nine touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.

The Louisiana Tech product spent the last three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he played in eight games, including two starts. McCown completed 42 of 78 pass attempts (53.8 percent) for 418 yards in his three seasons with the Jaguars. He signed with the New Orleans Saints as a free agent prior to training camp this season.

McCown started four games for the Browns in 2004 before being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to the 2005 NFL Draft. During his four seasons with the Buccaneers, he played in seven games completing 94 of 140 pass attempts (67.1 percent) for 1,009 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions.

Redman, 6-3, 225 pounds, was originally selected as a third round (75th pick overall) draft choice by the Baltimore Ravens in 2000. He was signed by Atlanta in 2007 and spent five seasons with the Falcons. In seven NFL seasons, Redman completed 286 of 500 pass attempts for 3,179 yards with 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Very happy with this. Redman was in over his head with DK's offense. McCown worked under DK at the Jags. Very sweet move.

Davis is now the #2. DK knows McCown from coaching him at the Jaguars and decided he can serve as a veteran backup better than Redman. Makes sense to me.

while I agree it makes sense, I'm not sure it makes Davis #2 now. but good luck to ya CR, you've filled in nicely when needed

I'm surprised by this, but it's a solid move. Lets see what McCown does on Thursday night (though, honestly, I hope Davis gets the bulk of the work -- McCown already knows the offense).

With the Falcons signing McCown I would suspect Chris Redman might be out of ATL
