Falcons Wearing White At Home - AUTiger7222 - 08-14-2012 12:31 AM

I could never remember the Falcons ever wearing white for a home game but I was just watching the Falcons 1999 NFL Yearbook and they did wear white at home against the Ravens that year. I wonder why.

Not sure why but they have done it a handful of times.

That team was so bad they probably forgot to wear the right jerseys.

I know if you play the Cowboys in the post season and force them to wear the blue jerseys by wearing white at home, they have a greater chance of losing. I forget the stat but their record is pretty dismal when they where the blue in the playoffs.

And it's not just in the playoffs. Cowboys record when wearing blue for any game is pretty bad except for Thanksgiving when they wear the throwbacks.

Its funny how so few teams force them to wear the blues.

I agree.

I thought the league used to make everyone where their white jerseys at home once a year before all the throwbacks......

I have no idea.

I definitely don't remember that. I think it has always the home team's choice to wear white (college is different BTW).

I started thinking about it and while there have been teams that have routinely done it, Dallas, Washington, Miami... there had to be teams that never did it. The Raiders wearing white at home just didn't seem right.

According to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_NFL_season

"For the first time in the teams history, the Oakland Raiders wore their white jerseys at home against the San Diego Chargers."

...which means that there couldn't have been a rule. Apparently this was Lane Kiffin's last game, he probably did it just to be a jackass.

One article I read said "The Raiders also wore white jerseys at home, but that wasn't by inspiration. It's because black jerseys attract heat, and Kiffin wanted his players to stay cooler on a sunny afternoon.'.

But on pro-football-reference.com it says
Weather: 61 degrees, relative humidity 78%, wind 10 mph

Well here's the video. That game was real early in the season so you don't have to watch much of the video to see it.
