According to PY, Matt Ryan #9 Player in NFC South - RFlagg - 07-10-2012 12:56 PM

Here's The Link

Quote:Matt Ryan, quarterback, Atlanta

What he did in 2011: He had his best statistical season with 29 touchdown passes and 4,177 yards. He did all that while being sacked a career-high 26 times and that number could have been significantly higher if Ryan hadn’t sidestepped some hits and thrown the ball away. Ryan led the Falcons to their fourth consecutive winning season.

Why he’s No. 9 in 2012: The knock on Ryan is he has yet to win in the postseason. You can’t argue that because it’s fact. But I do think Ryan’s postseason drought will end, probably this year. He’s a talented quarterback that works hard, has all the intangibles and has a great supporting cast at the skill positions. The Falcons have made some moves that should help their offensive line and that should allow Ryan more time to find receivers open downfield. Plus, the addition of new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter could mark a huge turning point in Ryan’s career. Ryan fared well under previous coordinator Mike Mularkey, but I’m not so sure the coordinator always put the quarterback in the best situations possible. I also don’t think Mularkey consistently let Ryan do the things he does best. Koetter has a reputation for being more creative and flexible than Mularkey and that’s exactly what Ryan needs. He’s on the cusp of being an elite quarterback. He just needs to be allowed to take the gloves off -- and run the no-huddle offense the majority of the time.

To give a bit of clarity, here's the rest of his list:

25. Marques Colston
24. Adrian Clayborn
23. Michael Turner
22. Josh Freeman
21. Jon Beason
20. Malcolm Jenkins
19. Roddy White
18. Charles Johnson
17. Jonathon Stewart
16. Vincent Jackson
15. Sean Weatherspoon
14. Curtis Lofton
13. DeAngelo Williams
12. Brent Grimes
11. Julio Jones
10. Jabari Greer

Players PY has said won't be on the list include:

Roman Harper
Matt Bryant
Thomas Morstead
Greg Olsen
Donald Penn
Dunta Robinson
Ronde Barber
Asante Samuel
Mark Barron
Luke Kuechly
Tony Gonzalez
Jordan Gross
John Abraham
Corey Peters
Gerald McCoy
Ben Grubbs
Davin Joseph
Chris Gamble

So we now know PY believes Cam Newton is better than Matt Ryan. We also know PY needs to get a CAT scan.

Whatever.
No one thinks Ryan is any good, except us. This year he will prove them all wrong.

Cam above Ryan??? Alright I can understand, to a degree, why he would be higher, but how much. If its just one spot alright that's fine, but if Cam is top 5 in the NFCS PY needs to be examined. Usually he's not that biased towards the Falcons, but I can only assume he's looking at how Cam fared his Rookie year + the huge potential.

Anyways glad to see Matt is still in a positive light, and PY sees at least the possibility that DK and Ryan will be better.

This is very true. I'm very conflicted about it all. I am glad we have a QB who can lead us to a victory in the 4th quarter. I just wish that we wouldn't be in a position that he had to do so. I really enjoy watching a 35-10 beating. But we never really get those with Ryan. So we have to ask ourselves, whose fault was it, Ryan's or Mularkey's? We get to find out this year. I just hope that we were all correct in thinking that it was Mularkey's fault.

or was it coach smith's fault? was he the one ordering things dialed back once we got a lead? will we ever know the truth?

Was 31-7, 41-14, and 45-24 good enough?

I honestly think that our first season after the mess and 3-13 record our staff wasn't prepared for a winning season. I believe our first staff wasn't built for a winning team. It was built for a team rebuilding. Our players were better than our staff could plan for.

No. 8 is out, it's Panthers WR Steve Smith.
