Don't be fooled by Matt Ryan's lack of postseason success - RFlagg - 06-01-2012 10:56 AM Pete Prisco Article Here Quote:Regular-season king. Can't cut it in the playoffs. He's oh-for-three as a playoff quarterback. RE: Don't be fooled by Matt Ryan's lack of postseason success - Jayhawk-Falcon2012 - 06-01-2012 11:56 AM This is just fantastic news, thanks for posting. We've been hearing great things about Ryan this off-season, work-outs/relationship with koetter, but its still good to read. Hopefully we will do very well in our division and get a superbowl. Things seem to be lining up great. RE: Don't be fooled by Matt Ryan's lack of postseason success - RFlagg - 06-01-2012 12:29 PM My favorite tid bit from the article: Quote:To help prepare for this season, Ryan changed the way he trained. He said he dropped four or five percentage points of body fat while adding five-six pounds of weight. Gotta love when a player does this. I read an article a few days ago where Roddy was quoted as saying that Matt's passes are coming in harder this year than previous years. RE: Don't be fooled by Matt Ryan's lack of postseason success - Dale4Saul2Red0 - 06-01-2012 02:36 PM "It's not about winning playoff games, it's about winning championships." Basically Matt saying I could have won multiple playoff games by now but if I didn't win the Super Bowl what the hell does it matter? RE: Don't be fooled by Matt Ryan's lack of postseason success - Polar Bear Jones - 06-01-2012 03:10 PM Getting stronger is fine. Hitting the books is great. His all or nothing attitude is reminds me of the great Ricky Bobby (if you're not first you're last). That said I still have not heard what I need to hear from him this offseason. I need to hear that he is working on his pocket elusiveness and extending the play while under pressure. Thats it all I need to here from the iceman. Cause if he says he is working on it with his work ethic I can reasonably expect him to be better at it next season. The same with Spoon. He said he was working on his pass rushing so I expect him to get more pressure on the QB. I have no idea how a QB would work on this. I used too like that he would throwit away instead of force it or take the sack but now he has to extend the play to give his weapons a chance. RE: Don't be fooled by Matt Ryan's lack of postseason success - phocis850 - 06-01-2012 03:20 PM You have to think. Ryan has basically had to teach himself everything. People like Brees and Rodgers had mentors to look up to. Granted, they weren't perfect, but there was still someone good they could watch and learn from. I think we'd all like to hear this from Ryan, but you also have to think the video of him watching players like Brady/Manning is contributing to that. I think in an article, can't remember which, but it said something along the lines of him watching the players like Brady/Manning and Brees and watching how they move around the pocket. I have to assume he's watching them, and doing things in the facilities to improve that. Again all speculation on my end. RE: Don't be fooled by Matt Ryan's lack of postseason success - Beef - 06-01-2012 03:54 PM If you have less bodyfat and more strength, you're going to increase you quickness and power by default. He's going to throw harder and move quicker. It's pretty simple to figure that out. His pocket "awareness" has never been bad. In fact, it's really quite good. Our OL has been HORRIBLE at letting pressure through the line and into Matt's space the past few years and yet he is consistently best 3rd in the league in fewest sacks. Even after getting sacked 13 times in the first 3 games last season, he only had 13 more over the next 13 games and ended up with much fewer sacks than 2/3rds of the rest of the QB's in the league. The difference, however, is that his awareness had him checking down and throwing quickly rather than stepping up or getting out of the way of pressure. I would like to see him be more elusive and give himself that extra time it's going to take to throw in a vertical spread. His awareness is fine. What he needed was more strength and quickness and I believe that's exactly what he has done this offseason. |
