Confused by Gonzo's comments on Matt in top 100 - Polar Bear Jones - 05-23-2012 11:31 PM http://www.nfl.com/videos/auto/09000d5d8294dba5/Top-100-Players-of-2012-Tony-Gonzalez Is he saying that we were in the no huddle too much and it was overwheling for matt. Or was he saying that Matt had too much on his plate and we should have limited the number of play choices he had in the no huddle. I find it odd to here him say this I know most fans liked the nohuddle and saw it as a strength of Matts. RE: Confused by Gonzo's comments on Matt in top 100 - Jayhawk-Falcon2012 - 05-24-2012 12:36 AM The way i understood the Gonzo comment was that, Because Matt had to essentially do the no huddle more than any other QB it was probably harder than most other QB's/OC's that actually have a gameplan that doesn't involve Matt needing to audible/create/run the offense more than 50% of the time. Like you see with other QB's with offenses they can run a play, and allow the QB to change if need be (Rodgers, Brees, Patriots). I didn't take it as any slight to Matt, but that because MM had a shit offense Matt was doing all the work. With the new offensive coordinator i think Gonzo is trying to say Matt is a threat, but because of the vanilla offense it made it difficult for Matty to really shine. That's my interpretation of the comment, and maybe I dug deeper than what he meant, but I think we can all agree Matt should be flying this upcoming season. RE: Confused by Gonzo's comments on Matt in top 100 - Dale4Saul2Red0 - 05-24-2012 01:06 AM He said he'd be a top 5 QB in the league before it's done. By his comments on the offense he's saying Matt had to make a ton of decisions as the QB. Yes Peyton Manning makes a ton of decisions when he plays but compare him to any other QB, even to Tom Brady, no QB makes even close to the kind of changes and calls Peyton makes during the course of the game. He really is basically saying it should be nice to allow Matt to actually relax and actually focus on just playing the game than thinking about calling every single piece of the offense correctly. Also an offense that isn't so predictable makes that easier. When your offense is predictable it makes it tougher on the O as a whole. RE: Confused by Gonzo's comments on Matt in top 100 - ATLBound - 05-24-2012 02:19 AM The lady asked him what does he see about Matt that makes him good but everybody else either don't or can't see That's when he mentioned the no huddle offense and how much is on Matt's shoulders. He was answering the question to show how much Matt takes on that others may not see RE: Confused by Gonzo's comments on Matt in top 100 - JDaveG - 05-24-2012 07:36 AM (05-24-2012 02:19 AM)ATLBound Wrote: The lady asked him what does he see about Matt that makes him good but everybody else either don't or can't see This. RE: Confused by Gonzo's comments on Matt in top 100 - Falcon Millenium - 05-24-2012 10:10 AM Too much responsibility being both the QB and OC. RE: Confused by Gonzo's comments on Matt in top 100 - Polar Bear Jones - 05-24-2012 11:18 AM So a more effective and conducive gameplan by Koetter going into games will put less pressure on Matt by allowing him to just play instead of making multiple adjustments to counteract poor play calling, within an overall weak gameplan. So he is not trashing the no huddle aspect of Matts game. But given a better gameplan and playcalling should we expect less no huddle or will it be used more to set a tempo to catch the defense off guard where Matt has a set of plays scripted by Koetter based on looks. We already know we will see the no huddle still. However I'd like to think the plan is install Koetter's philosophy and playbook elements into the no huddle so that rather than it being a series if tweaks and adjustments. It could be more streamlined. Sometimes it did get quite messy out there. I have no doubt Matt can run the no huddle, it's obvious. But so much of his time had to be spent adjusting. I mean how often did he snap the ball before 10 seconds. The no huddle for Matt was like he stripped down the play called and re built it using route combo installed as audibles. As evidenced by the Jaquizz TD pass he also would change the routes to take advantage if the way the defense is playing. I get the sense that a lot of the time the no huddle was used to get the offense out of trouble rather than help or allow the offense to put their throat on the opposition. A better fundamental playbook will allow for the no huddle to be more effective. Matt's a fucking good QB. Kid gets dissed because they know he is a threat he isn't the sexy pick. Same people will be on his jock, kid is grafting hard. Pisses me off. He has been the most consistent Of these young QBs yet you got people genuinely trying to justify that someone like Newton or Stafford is better. Off one season of work. Shit if you gave Matt Megattron 5 years into his career the way he exploded last year he'd have torn up arse. Julio is gonna be a nasty surprise for people the next seasons. And it is going to be worse by the time kid hits around 26. Looking forward to this Era in Falcons football. |
