do y'all really think there is any way in hell the media would be sitting on a Brees suspension? no way.....i doubt seriously that Goodell would jeapordize what little credibility he has left by making it look like a suspended player wasn't suspended, i don't care who that player is. if he was suspended instead of being in a contract dispute, we'd know it for sure

Or stretching it out some.... Maybe Goodell is saving the face of the NFLPA and not suspending their "player safety" representative. Quite possibly Goodell is being the nice guy through this entire process.

It is rather interesting how the coaches suspended haven't said a word. Also, those players complaining haven't brought any proof against the ruling.

But Brees has been talking some serious shit about the bounty situation...also the NFLPA has filed lawsuits agains the NFL as well. Its too much mixed up for them to be working together on this. I agree with papachaz on this. What would the NFL have to gain by keeping Brees anonymous. People will still watch football.

phocis,

Think about it, not even the owner; Benson has not said a word or come to any player's or coach's defense. He has seen the evidence and he knows it is true.

Yep. That is the biggest thing about the whole ordeal. They got caught and are just staying out of the way and out of the media.

Not to mention Guido who has mysteriously disappeared from this thread with any further comment... Dodgy

Probably crapping his pants on the Brees deal as well or lack thereof... Big Grin

Tick... tick... tick...

The best thing to come from the Brees contract craziness the cheap Aints have pulled is that, if he has to sign the tender, you can bet he will think twice before standing in the pocket that extra second and taking the hit. I mean, he does that too much, his career could be over, and all that money gone.

I pray the Aints keep acting stupid on this!

Agreed... watching the Saints implode this season will be a joy after their few seasons of front office and fan arrogance.

He didn't have to say a word. He's the one who turned over all the evidence. Benson sold his coaching staff out.

There will be a difficult time ahead as trust is reformed between Payton, Loomis and Benson.

I agree that Brees knew and for some reason he still denies it. It's gotten scary how many Saints deny every thing despite the evidence. But there is a chance that it was done only by the defense in their meetings. Possible but unlikely. In a locker room there are few secrets on game day.

I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to sit out the season because Payton isn't there but he doesn't come across as that guy. I don't think he was suspended. He is a good guy and even though the bounty program was happening I don't think he had anything to do with it. He's also a gamer. I don't think he will miss a game. He'll have a last second change and sign the tender. That's that. Next year he will want to get paid. If Payton stays then it will happen. If he leaves, Brees will follow.

I see people tossing around and joking about Brees knowing about the bounty system the Saints installed and saying that he is actually been suspended for this season, but is using the contract dispute as a way to let him save face (a la Jordan's retirement/move to baseball after being investigated for gambling). My question is, would it be so far fetched that Brees actually did know about the bounty program? here's a picture of the New Orleans locker room.

And another at their training facility.

The first thing I notice: No separation between players, in fact, things look pretty close together to me. I'm not saying Brees contributed money to the pool, but to think that he didn't once, in 3 seasons, overhear someone talking about the money they earned during a game is almost too far fetched to believe.

Another theory I've seen is that Brees might just sit this season out so that he won't have to play this year without Payton. Again, not a bad thought. In Brees career, here are his stats with and without Payton.

Without Sean Payton:
Total - 59 Games, 1125/1809, 62.2%, 12,348 Yards, 6.83 YPA, 80 TDs, 53 INTs, 84.9 Rating
Per Game - 19.07/30.66, 209.29 Yards, 1.36 TDs, 0.90 INTs

With Sean Payton:
Total - 95 Games, 2488/3670, 67.8%, 28,394 Yards, 7.74 YPA, 201 TDs, 93 INTs, 98.5 Rating
Per Game - 26.19/38.63, 298.88 Yards, 2.12 TDs, 0.98 INTs

Is it too far fetched to believe that Brees is willing to sit out a season so he can continue to play for a coach that lead him to such drastically better numbers? I'd have to think the thought has at least entered his mind.

Of course this is all null and void if the Saints actually pay him for a long term deal in the next 9 days.
