ESPN's Cowherd predicts, 10-6 falcons? - Jayhawk-Falcon2012 - 05-08-2012 08:07 PM

But yeah Falcons end up 10-6 in the division with everyone else going 7-9/7-9/6-10

I'm not saying falcons won't be able to get 10-6, but really 7-9 the rest of the way? I know the Saints are essentially screwed this season, but not 7-9, I at least expect the Saints to pull out 9 wins at the most.

Bucs...I kind of see them as the team most likely to compete against us, and Cam being the freak of an athlete he is should be able to get 8.

what do you all think, being as Objective as can be.

Sorry, but how do you see the Saints screwed? They have the best offense in the league returning almost totally intact. Their defense, even if Vilma is gone, is greatly improved talent wise with the additions of Lofton, Hawthorne, and Chamberlain at LB.

They also have a high draft choice LB and DE returning after a DL stint last season.

The Saints will still be the team to beat in the NFL South.

Guido, I find myself looking forward to your posts. Not because I agree with you of course but you are entertaining.

I think Cam Newton is getting blown up to fast slow down on him. The league has tape on Jim now. He will prob have a drop off close to Dreeman. Everyone jumped on him and he fell flat. As far as the Saints I think losing Payton will hurt them more than more than most realize. I don't expect them to win more than 9 games.

Cam will have his sophmore slump just like every other QB in history. He still has a shitty team surrounding him. His best players are rookies. They will be really good in about 3 more years.

TB might just go 5-11 or worse IMO. They are a mess at so many levels, especially coaching and overall team cohesivness.

Returning nearly the same offense for the Saints does not guarantee them to be the #1 offense again. The Falcons went 13-3 in 2010 and won the division and then returned everyone in 2011 but Harvey Dahl and we go 10-6 while throwing for more yards, running for more yards, scoring more TD's, and throwing less ints. Our offense in 2011 was better than our offense in 2010. Our defense was also better in 2011 than it was in 2010. Yet we lost 3 more games and came in second in the division.

You are guaranteed NOTHING simply because you're returning most of your players. The Saints have baggage and baggage weighs you down. Acting like everything is hunky dory simply because you just feel like all is great and nothing will/can/could effect your players is naive and going overboard with the homerism. There's a much larger history of teams with distration and baggage playing worse than there is of those teams playing better. Ignoring that because of bias is only setting yourself up for disappointment. Being at least somewhat more realistic will either ease your pain in the end or give you even better satisfaction. You're so extreme to the unreasonable side that it's just clouding your logic in everything you post here. It's really quite extraordinary to watch from our side.

What your saying is that your coaching staff doesn't make a difference. So that Sean of yours isn't really that "genius" that everyone claims he is.

Considering they would be the only NFL South team I would say yeah, they're the team to beat.

Sooo yeah Guido any responses to the arguments made?

Again I never completely ruled the Saints out (I did give them at least 9) so yeah...better then Cowherd.

I think we can win the South but I highly doubt 10 wins is gonna win the South for a long time

So, replacing Payton, Nicks & Meachem with Vitt, Grubbs & Arrington isn't going to affect your team at all?

Replacing Nicks and Meachem is not almost totally intact. PFF rated Nicks the 27th best player overall last year, Grubbs didn't make the top 101 list.

Implying there's no drop off between those two is like claiming that there's no drop off replacing Brees with Romo.

There will be plays during the year that won't work because Nicks isn't in there- maybe a dozen during the year, maybe 2-3 a game, enough to cost a game or two.

What they're really going to miss is the in-game play calling from Payton, he's a master of calling the exact right play at the exact right time. Saints are going to miss that.

Don't think that Cowherd's 7 win prediction is accurate, unless there's a lot of locker room strife because of bountygate, but don't see a 12-13 win season either.
