some draft buzz from GBNreport.com - ggp - 04-17-2012 08:35 PM I saw this on GBNreport today. They are pretty good about the insider info they publish. Of course, no source is perfect. This is just something to chew on before the draft. More smoke than fire … According to multiple league sources, Philadelphia has not had substantive discussions with Cleveland about a trade for the 4th pick overall. There were reports over the weekend that as many as 4 teams including Philadelphia and St. Louis have talked with the Browns about trading for the pick. However, the reality of the story appears to be that the Eagles have had very preliminary chats with a number of teams picking ahead of them at #15, as most teams do in the days before the draft, and the headlines regarding Philadelphia's interest may all be just a little smoke from Cleveland looking to drum up interest in the pick … At the same time, the New York Jets are rumored to be considering a trade-up in order to get South Carolina DE Melvin Ingram. Targets could be Jacksonville at #7 who may take Ingram themselves or Carolina at #9 … Interesting that when asked about former Alabama stars Dre Kirkpatrick, Mark Barron and Courtney Upshaw, all of whom have been linked to the Cowboys and the 14th pick overall, Stephen Jones, Dallas owner Jerry Jones’ son and the team’s chief operating officer and director of player personnel, had the most to say about OLB Upshaw. As quoted in the Dallas Morning News, the younger Jones said that Upshaw “is a guy we’re really going to have to take a long, hard look at over the next couple of weeks …” In particular, the Cowboys will be checking to see if Upshaw would be a good fit as an OLB in the team’s 3-4 scheme. It had been thought, though, that Upshaw could be slipping after a somewhat disappointing pro day workout late last month and that FS Barron and CB Kirkpatrick would be the more likely targets of a team like Dalla picking in the middle of the opening round … Upshaw also rumored to be still one of the primary targets of the Jets should they stay at the 16th pick … For what is worth, there are rumblings about that South Carolina CB Stephon Gilmore has moved up closer to the top 10, while there are also hints that no one should be surprised if Syracuse DE Chandler Jones ends up being selected in the top 20. Meanwhile, California MLB Mychal Kendricks, who put on a show at the combine, is reportedly moving up in the second round while, athletic Oklahoma OT Donald Stephenson, another player who impressed at the combine, has started to get some late second-day consideration. There is also a little bit of late-round buzz regarding OTs Dennis Kelly of Purdue and Harvard’s Kevin Murphy… A couple of other later round or free agent prospects NFL teams have been checking out in the annual rite to find the next Marcus Colston includes Beloit WR Derek Carrier, a 6-3, 238-pound receiver who has also played basketball and run track for the DIII school. At the same time, West Virginia Wesleyan WR Jon Meadows, a possession receiver who led all DII receivers with 99 receptions last fall, reminds more than one scout of a poor man’s Wes Welker type of player ... On the other hand, one player who appears to have generated some anti-buzz is Arizona State LB Vontaze Burfict, once a first-round prospect, who reportedly has not received any invites at all to onsite pre-draft visits. That suggests that Burfict may simply have been taken off many boards across the league and could quite conceivably not be drafted at all. What makes the dearth of invites especially tough for Burfict is that he’s exactly the kind of talented player with red flags that teams often like to bring in for a pre-draft chat just to see for themselves if there was any redemptive qualities for the player. Several people have been projecting us to draft Stevenson in the third round. I initially thought that those projections were a little too complimentary of Stevenson. I guess I was wrong. RE: some draft buzz from GBNreport.com - FullMetalFalcon23 - 04-18-2012 10:32 AM We might be considering him with our 2nd rounder. Really does depend on who will be on the board at that point. RE: some draft buzz from GBNreport.com - hotlanta2 - 04-18-2012 08:43 PM I don't know if he's worth it there |
