Pensacola has had it's fair share of damage from hurricanes. The worst damage occurred because of 2 hurricanes.
#1 Hurricane Erin. Came in and took out part of the sand dunes.
#2 Hurricane Opal. Took out the remaining dunes. There was no time to rebuild and there was no good clean sand to use. Opal devastated the beach. Life on the island hasn't been the same since.
I have a friend that lost their house twice. Having to rebuild. And just when they got finished rebuilding from Erin, Opal came in and destroyed it again.
Whether we admit it or not, Katrina and any other hurricane is no different. If you lost your home, then you encountered the same thing as another person from a different disaster. And disease in Katrina was caused mainly by the location, being in a swamp, and the people having unclean habits to begin with.
I am a damage investigator for ATT. Over the last 14 years, I have been on every block of every street in the city of New Orleans.I am still looking for a swamp.Still looking.

Much of the city is below sea level so that explains the levees. Keep looking.

Another genuis.Alot of California where there is ZERO water is below sea level.Below sea level doesn't mean swamp.Like I said.The city of New Orleans has ZERO swamp.

The water table is so high you can use post hole diggers to hit serious water. Why do you think the graves are above ground vaults? The graves fill with water and the casket floats out and the Metarie cemetaries are a prime example.
The whole city is artificially built with the levee system and without that only the French Quarter and a couple of other areas would be dry and the rest would be a brackish swamp.
Believe me I know New Orleans.

My bad. I'm from southeast louisiana. When someone mentions a swamp, I think they are talking about a swamp. I hunt and fish in honey island swamp which is a 70,000 acre SWAMP,a place that tourist (yes, even those from georgia) spend $$$$ to actually see real wildlife.Anyway, I'm not gonna change anyone's thoughts,so,...
