Edit: I appreciate what he did, but I have no respect for him anymore. He'd rather play in NO, with all the shit they're going through, for a little extra $? Don't want that here.

Good for him. I liked his steady play and recognize that he is an excellent run defender. I think that he will continue to improve his pass coverage and could, someday, become the pro bowler we had hoped for. We just can not afford to throw big money at a guy that can not cover well. We could not get our defense off the field, even on third and long situations. Lofton is not soley to blame, but it was habit to see easy completions in the middle of the field. Lofton was often responsible for that coverage and he often let us down. We need LB's that can cover better.

Curtis has played at a Pro Bowl level every year he was here. I can't believe we let him walk and to let him walk to our most hated division rival is just sickening.

Great run stopper and tackler. Absolutely elite at those 2 things. But that is it and that's all NO is getting. He's terrible at any type of stunt or blitz, just bad at any form of pass rush, and he's not only below average on 3rd downs, but he's a complete liability in any pass coverage scheme.
We let him go for a reason and it's not money. I assure you that Nolan openly called him a 2-down LB early because they had already made the decision not to re-sign him and they wanted to let out a reason why for when he eventually signed with someone else.

Lofton was the core of the defense in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, however, it seemed like Spoon pretty much took the role from him by force. I think Lofton is a very good player, but not worth more than 5 million a year. If the Saints paid him more than that, they are over paying him.
