If we sign Mario, are we the team to beat in the NFC? - monoxide - 03-10-2012 09:52 PM

I remember last year after drafting Julio, the first question I asked was "what team would be favored over us in the NFC?" Obviously my Greatest Show on Turf expectation were a little off, but I can't help but ask the same question this year. Once again, this is the huge assumption of IF we sign Mario Williams. With that said, is it mere homerism to assume that we would move up to the prestigious elite? Division winners and finally a playoff victory or three.

Once again, maybe this is all wishful thinking off of my hopeful prediction of Super Mario, but is it that off? A healthy Julio, Matty, Roddy, Grimes, Spoon, and Mario would certainly take us to the top.

A superbowl trophy all depends on what decoud and moore decide to do

With the signing of Tatupu, Manuwai, and potentially another O-lineman in free agency, is it possible to use our 2nd on a safety? I know by giving DeCoud 18 million it seems as if we're guaranteeing a spot, but upgrading that position doesn't sound like a bad idea especially after the playoff game.

Will the Falcons be the team to beat in the NFC? No more than the Eagles were after their spending spree last Spring. Mario is good, but it all depends on so many things. OL, DB's, Pass Rush, Stopping the run with an injury-laden MLB, and New Coordinators. No way I would label the Falcons the team to beat. I think that's asking for trouble.

We're a favorite every year. we're just a year removed from taking the top seed. Our defensive problems were all about scheme. I think with Abe gone and moving him around so much will settle our d line down. Edwards can put up 9-10 sacks Biermann 8-10 Sidbury 6-8 Those numbers are good enough. Our offense will click this year too. Mario Williams is great but we just can't afford him. It's hard for a DE to live up to $100 million dollar expectations. Heck we paid much less to Edwards and everyone was disappointed.

It depends,
Does Peyton go NFC or AFC?
What exactly happens to the Saints?

Manning should really go to the cowboys

Not really sure about the team to beat in the NFC, getting Mario would be nice, also with Mackay doing his guru work at the cap, i'm sure he can get the money up to make a good offer for Mario. I'm watching what the Saints do alot, becuase them franchising Brees, their going to lose Colston and their Guard, and we might be able to grab that guard Carl Nicks. Which means one Brees will play pissed off because not getting a deal, their O-line is weaker, which is a BIG PLUS, and all this Bounty gate going on, You don't think that the other 31 teams are putting a big gunsight on Brees. Like you did it to us now lets see how you like it and whoever knocks him out. Was it a Bounty? What bounty, were just playing football. lol Tongue The person I bet that hates bounty gate the most, Brees because everybody is going to be coming after him. Tongue

As much as I like Abe and respect him I'm ok with letting him walk. I think we were a little to dependent on him, he should end up in the ROF here but it is probably better for us in the long run to develop a pass rush besides him. Nolan should be able to do wonders with the young DE's we have here and with a MW in his prime we should be pretty damn good.
