It's because the NFLPA is now involved and they don't want to see any of their players unjustly suspended. Coaches, GM's and teams have little say, but the players union carries a big stick. Expect to see fines and a few suspensions.

You are correct about the NFLPA, but this issue cuts both ways. The leadership can't afford to be seen as being lax on the need to help protect players from injury and supporting behavior that is clearly outside the rules and maybe even outside the law.

I agree, but what I keep hearing is that what was going on with the Saints was not as egregious as the media, and Goodell, implies. He is clearly making an example of them knowing full well that it has gone on elsewhere.

And it will stop elsewhere too.

Yup. At the explicit expense of the Saints.

And the Rams.

Yup, and any other of the many teams that now have former players IF suspensions are levied.

AG, from what we've seen of Goodell, there is not an IF!

But, he hasn't taken on the NFLPA head on like this.

I'll take a piece of that action. Just name the terms.

You know player safety is big with the NFLPA so they may not stand in his way. Plus Brees will have some feedback from the NFLPA because it is hard to believe he wasn't aware of the bounty system but Shockey was.
