Thoughts On The Drew Brees Contract Situation - RFlagg - 02-29-2012 12:48 PM Yes, I know this is a Falcons forum, but I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the Drew Brees contract situation. Latest reports (ESPN, Jason La Canfora, NOLA.com) are that the sides are far apart on a deal and the Saints are prepared to use the franchise tag on Brees. If the Saints do franchise Brees, he will count for $14 million against the cap, meaning they likely won't be able to resign Nicks and Colston. What are your thoughts? Is the Saints front office about to screw up royally and start throwing away one of the best offenses in football? RE: Thoughts On The Drew Brees Contract Situation - markdzul - 02-29-2012 02:35 PM Will be very interested to see how it turns out. If he is franchised they can still reach an agreement on a long term deal. It would be wise for him to get a deal done, give a bit of a discount to keep either Coleston or Nicks. Nicks has got to be the priority for them. they have a ton of WR talent and Drew has a lot to do with that... RE: Thoughts On The Drew Brees Contract Situation - Paprika Neck - 02-29-2012 02:42 PM I think cleveland is waaaay shittier than both. Cincinati blows detroit blows. When their teams suck there's nothing else. RE: Thoughts On The Drew Brees Contract Situation - Anomaly - 02-29-2012 04:49 PM First I want them to have to franchise Brees so they can't tag Colston or Nicks, then I want them to finalize a contract that will be like 20mil+ per year that will destroy their cap space. RE: Thoughts On The Drew Brees Contract Situation - The Falcon Jedi - 02-29-2012 08:26 PM They franchised Brees and that put them in Cap Hell. It's awesome. RE: Thoughts On The Drew Brees Contract Situation - pauliwood - 02-29-2012 10:01 PM It's just our luck that the Saints lose Brees, but then pick up Manning. But the question is will Manning be truly healthy next season. RE: Thoughts On The Drew Brees Contract Situation - juraitwaluzka - 02-29-2012 10:41 PM I would rather face Manning than Brees to be honest. RE: Thoughts On The Drew Brees Contract Situation - cnasty - 03-01-2012 12:33 AM I think we were already under the assumption that they wouldn't be able to sign all 3 of their big name free agents. Sounds like Brees wants a blockbuster deal, which means that they could lose Nicks & Colston. Even if they use the tag, there's little chance that they will be able to afford either of the aforementioned two FAs. Either way, it certainly isn't breaking my heart as a Falcon fan.
