Falcons to let Grimes walk? - ChrisD - 01-17-2012 12:21 PM Per Rotoworld, Team sources tell Pro Football Weekly that the Falcons expect free agent CB Brent Grimes to play elsewhere in 2012. Per PFW, "some inside the organization were very surprised, and disappointed" when Grimes sat out the Falcons' Wild Card round loss to the Giants after practicing on a limited basis with a knee injury. It's possible Grimes had his free agency in mind when deciding whether or not to play. Grimes is reportedly likely to "price himself out of the team's range." Jan 13 - 4:44 PM Source: Pro Football Weekly So what do you guys make of this? Do you really think that TD would let Grimes walk? I was surprised that he sat out against the Giants as well seeing how he practiced during the week. No offense, but letting one of the better cornerbacks in the league (definitely in the top 10 imo) walk into free agency is insane. Dunta Robinson wasn't worth a penny of his 60Mil if this happens. RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk? - Paprika Neck - 01-17-2012 12:23 PM a guy who's greatest asset is he can jump out of a building just tore his knee up. roll of the dice on that one. i assume he blew out his knee because if it was just sore and he didn't play well fuck you grimes. RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk? - Peyton - 01-17-2012 12:30 PM I'm bummed about it. They should have taken care of that a long time ago. But I wish him the best, great guy, great player. Have tons of respect for where he had to come from to put himself into the position he is in now. Dude would you be bummed if we tied him up last year and the injury still happened. The FO may have been assessing him and felt well no way are we paying you last seasons figure or more after the season you have had. It would be bad business. I'm not mad with the FO if he has to go, because we could try putting that money into more players who can stay with us longer and not be injured. Brent missed a lot of time last season and I think missing NYG hurt him with the club. Not in a bitter way, because if he couldn't go he couldn't go. But he had like 2 weeks rest after NO. You telling me he wasn't even safe to suit up and try. If its that bad you are fortunate to not have longterm money locked up in. If it wasn't that serious and he didn't play then you gotta look at it and say well he couldn't trust us to go out there and play then get the contract done and he sat on us. I'm not hating on Grimes or anything but there is a lot that we must no know about this situation. RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk? - Dale4Saul2Red0 - 01-17-2012 12:45 PM Tore up knee, and his biggest asset is his vertical. Huge red flag. Love Grimes wish him the best but if the FO doesn't bring him back it's the right call. Also the fact he was a late scratch does smell like he was protecting himself. I'm not a fan of that at all. I just think the Falcons were stupid not to lock him up before the 2010 season or at the very latest during the 2010 season, the way the Packers did with Tramon Williams. I recognize they can't afford him now. He is going to get a very large contract. RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk? - cooperbh - 01-17-2012 12:46 PM As I've said before: Brandon Carr and Ben Grubbs > Brent Grimes RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk? - Dale4Saul2Red0 - 01-17-2012 12:49 PM (01-17-2012 12:45 PM)Peyton Wrote: Sure theree is. I'm not sure it's going to be as large as he and some people are thinking. A big factor is going to be where Finnegan sets the bar. There's a good handful of serviceable corners as UFA this year as well. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I still say Grimes winds up a Cowboy. Thing is Brent Grimes was worth the big contract then. But now unless the knee really checks out he is a risk type player. Through no fault of his own. The other problem is corners unless they are as prolific as someone like Bailey or Barber rarely play till 35. Grimes is 30 this coming season. The contract we signed Dunta to should have been what we gave Grimes at that very time. Doing so now it just seems fiscally irresponsible. When he might not be capable of playing it out at the high level he is demanding. I personally hope we can get it dumb. But considering his first big payday is his last I think Miko always had intentions for him to hit the open market and get the most for his services even if that was back in Atlanta. The competition would drive up his price. |
