The Falcons hired the guy that ran one of the worst offenses in NFL history this year, and the people who are upset about it have to explain themselves. I knew you would be annoyed. You wouldn't even answer the what-if question I presented. Just said it wouldn't happen. At least I slept well. You can't blame the jockey when he is given a lame horse to ride. UH..what? I was wrong. But now that it's done, I am fascinated with the crowd that is asking "why are some of you upset?". Like I said, I feel like I am in the twilight zone. I wasn't happy with the hire but our reactions were totally different. And its the bitching and whining that got on many peoples nerves including myself. You weren't obviously the only obe but especially when people are saying "Koetter made Gabbert worst than he is" is a serious reach that a man trying to tuck himself wouldn't do. For some reason, I have this memory of me cutting on Del Rio and you defending him. Either way, I know he's not really your boy. Just a little good natured jab. RE: I don't understand all the Dirk negativity-LONG READ - Peyton - 01-16-2012 04:32 PM It's kind of like this for me. Nobody this year was a bigger cheerleader for this franchise than me. All year the team was inconsistent, and I would say..."hey guys, don't worry about it, the only thing that matter is winning enough to get to the playoffs and the Falcons will do that. You will see their best effort in the playoffs, unlike last year." Then the Falcons made me feel like an idiot by effectively getting shut out in the play off game. It's shaken my confidence in these guys to take the next step, to be honest. I was hoping to have the confidence restored by the hire of the OC. This hire did the opposite of that for me. Sooooo many people get up in arms and I understand its a lot invested emotionally into the team but sometimes we need to put things in perspective. Ease back folks! Just because I criticize the Falcons for making a crappy hire doesn't mean that I am putting an increased importance on football. I just find winning way more entertaining than losing, and I think the Falcons are likely to do more losing in the near future than they have been doing. RE: I don't understand all the Dirk negativity-LONG READ - IceFalcon - 01-16-2012 05:31 PM Positives about this hire: - He has way more talent to use than in Jax. - He has a history of using all of his weapons in his arsenal, not just a select few. The stat posted ether on this board or AFMB is that he had 7 receivers with over 100 yards, and 4 with over 300 yards his first and second season, and then Lewis got over 1000 yards making the all-pro team his 3rd year, all while MJD was beasting. - MJD led the league in rushing, all while having a suspect OL, Suspect recievers, and a suspect QB. This means that MJD CONSTANTLY did well even with stacked boxes. - He calls screen passes and draw plays to give D's different looks. He also likes slants over the middle, with big YAC play capabilities (the problem in Jax is that the receivers either sucked, dropped passes, or Gabbert just didn't make the throw. The couple of good games Gabbert had, their offense actually did pretty well). - Listening to him interview, he seems bright and ready for the challenge. It seemed like MM was like that his first year, but wnated to be a HC more than just call plays, and stopped being innovative. - More elaborating on the bright comment above: During his interview, he made some pretty astute observations about the current state of the game, and balanced offensive attacks, as well as knowing what we need to do to win a game (either ground and pound, shootout, mix, etc). This guy really does seem to have a good offensive acumen. - He seems really excited about working with Matt Ryan. He said Ryan has "it", and is definitely a top-tier QB. Not sure if I am ready to say he is going to take him to the next level, but I feel more confident about him than with MM. Peyton - Before you feel like the ball has dropped to the ground, try giving him a chance. I really feel like this is a good hire. I was suspect at first, but after reading about him, and listening to his interview, I say give him a chance. RE: I don't understand all the Dirk negativity-LONG READ - Jimusmc - 01-16-2012 05:32 PM hey guys apparently what someone does in college means they're great in the NFL! then you think of Bobby petrino and Nick Saban and know you're wrong. |
