That's the biggest thing I disliked about MM was that he remained separate from the players. I want him to get in our players faces, get on the sidelines and explain what the D is doing. Good points. I definitely like the sideline thing. RE: Dirk our New OC - mdrake34 - 01-15-2012 02:58 PM (01-15-2012 02:42 PM)JDaveG Wrote: Agreed. Martz is the one guy I didn't want, for that reason. This is the key. If we upgrade the o-line, I will feel fully confident in the direction we're taking. If we draft some bullshit 5th round D III guard who was injured all year but is "cerebral" I'll shit a cinder block. We need a FA infusion of talent (and girth) on the line. I think even MM could have had marginally more success with a better o-line. AB called out TD on the o-line, TD knows he needs to get his shit together up front. RE: Dirk our New OC - Paprika Neck - 01-15-2012 02:59 PM i bet you kutter doesn't call 2 qb sneaks in a row on 4th and inches RE: Dirk our New OC - mdrake34 - 01-15-2012 03:01 PM (01-15-2012 02:59 PM)Paprika Neck Wrote: i bet you kutter doesn't call 2 qb sneaks in a row on 4th and inches Unless Smitty tells the sideline reporter at halftime that's what we're doing. I really hope Blank chewed Smith's ass out over that. RE: Dirk our New OC - juraitwaluzka - 01-15-2012 03:01 PM (01-15-2012 02:58 PM)mdrake34 Wrote: This is the key. RE: Dirk our New OC - mdrake34 - 01-15-2012 03:02 PM Another reason I take some solace in this hire - Nick Saban wanted Koetter at Alabama. Yes, college and pros are vastly different, but Saban is the smartest guy and best coach in the NCAA, so I like that he was after Koetter also. Saban typically gets what he wants too, so we must have been impressed with Koetter in his interview. RE: Dirk our New OC - Paprika Neck - 01-15-2012 03:03 PM smith's balls are HUGE he needs an offensive coordinator with comparable ball size. conservative and liberal do no mix on the foobaw field... RE: Dirk our New OC - FullMetalFalcon23 - 01-15-2012 03:05 PM Hahaha I was like nah man why say that. It's like he loses who he is in the playoffs. The whole team does. We need a big boy Oline. If we are playing Cutterball(I'm coining it now) we're gonna need some hogs. We need a tackle and a guard that is it. I believe putting Harley between a big nasty bitch and blalock makes sense. With a sure intelligent and athletic blindside protector. Regardless of scheme we need offensive line upgrades stat RE: Dirk our New OC - Paulitik - 01-15-2012 03:08 PM Whether Koetter turns out to be a great OC or not is absolutely irrelevant. You don't tell the fan base "we are determined to win the Super Bowl", by hiring the guy who just left leading the worst offense in the NFL. It tells me that Mike Smith is the coward I was starting to think he was. Too scared to go outside his comfort zone and bring in a true innovator to run this offense. Mike Smith is now Mark Richt. This is a terrible hire. I don't care what talent Koetter had. You don't have the #32 ranked anything and get another OC job for a NFL team, you go back to college or you get to be a positional coach. I am really let down by this. I will always support the Falcons, but I will be going into the next season with no expectations, except that we will probably not improve and that this will be Mike Smith's last year. One thing that bothers me with the Falcons is that they put way too much emphasis on interview performance. You have to balance interviews with track record. |
