I think it will have to do with more then just purely the money... ill just say that Correct. There seemed to be a lot of talk towards the end of the season that the staff really liked him. Hope they are thinking of Walls more than Owens or Franks. With the chance he was given, Walls didn't do a bad job. Kid breaks on the ball like a beast. Yes he got burned against the jaguars on that one play, but moments before he came down on a pass he read perfectly he just forgot to stay calm keep his eyes on the ball. Grimes is going to be 30 this year. It just seems like he bloomed a little too late and had a contract too long to make use of his opportunity to maximise his cash. His first big contract will also be his last and realistically the money he wants there is no way we would cram it in to a 4 year contract. I don't think he has 6 years of play in him like that. That's a damn good point. But Walls over Grimes is taking a step back. RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes - Blogging Dirty - 01-14-2012 02:12 PM Walls and Franks will both benefit from having a full off-season. They both have good physical skills and they will only improve with exposure to practice reps and playing time. I expect both to have breakout seasons in 2012. Exactly! I'm not sold on Owens at all. That's a fact, Jack. Everybody knows Brent is my favorite player on the team. This is a real bummer for me. TD should have locked him up in the middle of 2010, the way the Packers did with Tramon Williams. RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes - Beef - 01-14-2012 02:46 PM Owens is garbage. He should have been called for PI at least twice against the Giants. Personally, I hope we release him. If we let Grimes & Abraham go, we're going to be in serious trouble next year. We're going to have a very mediocre pass rush with Edwards/Matthews, Peters, Babs, and Sidbury/Biermann/rookie. Add to that only having Robinson, Owens/Franks/Walls, Hayden(maybe)/rookie, Moore, & Sanders/DeCoud(maybe)/rookie, and we'll have a bottom 10 defense that gets thrown all over. I don't care who the new DC is, if that's what we're working with, which is a possibility since we're going to concentrate on OL in FA, our defense will suck. Our DT's are average at best. They get very little consistent pressure up the middle. The front 4/7 is extremely good against the run, but that's it. Losing Abe and hoping a DC can coach up who's left doesn't sound all that great to me. And if our pass rush continues to be mediocre, losing Grimes is going to compound how shitty our pass coverage is. But TD will go out and sign bums like Dunta Robinson to Revis type money and lead on great players like Grimes who had to work very hard to get where he's at (Shippensburg, NFL Europe somebody). They gave him the chance to start and Grimes have proven himself. TD just played Grimes like Nintendo Wii. I strongly believe, Grimes is gone. It's just like you said, if TD was going to sign Grimes, he would have done it in the middle of 2010 the way the Packers did with Tramon Williams. |
