Our Falcons sources expect CB Brent Grimes, who is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, to be playing for a different team next season.

Grimes, who underwent knee surgery in late November, missed four of the final five games of the regular season as he recovered from the procedure. He practiced on a limited basis two days prior to the Falcons' playoff loss to the Giants, though. The team was expecting him to suit up vs. the Giants, but he was added to the list of inactives the morning of the game and we hear some inside the organization were very surprised, and disappointed, that he didn't play.

However, the Falcons were encouraged by the performance of CBs Dominique Franks and Chris Owens down the stretch, and the team will be looking to have the cap flexibility to re-sign some of its other core players. We hear that Grimes, the team's top corner, is likely to price himself out of the team's range.

well, I didn't see this coming. Has Franks really showed enough that he can be a starter on this defense?

that would really more fully define TD's biggest mistake since coming here...that Dunta contract.

I'm not going to get into it.. But if we let Grimes go... I think it will have to do with more then just purely the money... ill just say that

I hope things change but if we can get an DE (Mario Williams) with that money... ill be ok with that

lol, cliff hanger of the year my dude...but yeah, if we don't sign Grimes but get Williams, bring back Abe and the young boys grow up then I'd think we could be better than our roster with Grimes back and the same d-line

If so is it possible that something is more wrong with his knee then is being let on? That is what I got out of this article or that Grimes didn't want to play injured because it was the final year of his contract. If the latter is the case then no matter how much I/we love the guy that doesn't show any heart. Both scenarios don't feel great about the future.

With that being said, if we retain him then I wouldn't be upset. And I agree Franks and Owens showed much better skills the last few games of the season including the playoff game.

maybe it's just me, but grimes didn't seem to really have the kind of year this year he did last year. he missed a lot of picks that the last few years we've grown accustomed to seeing him make.

this doesn't surprise me, and honestly, it doesn't seem AT THE MOMENT to be upsetting me all that much. maybe this would indicate we're going to go to a more 'bump and run' type cover, and as good as he is with his UPS, he just isn't big enough to play bump with most of the bigger receivers in the league

He's to short for the money he wants. Jimmy Graham proved that.

BTW, this essentially means that we should have traded him last year and got something out of him. Now it's my understanding that he is free to roam and we get zero in return.

is he at least unrestricted, where we could get compensatory picks?
