Reading back over the notes from the news conference - papachaz - 01-13-2012 01:12 PM I have read the notes from the presser the other day a few times. something just jumped out at me i haven't seen talked about yet. opinoins on this please! Arthur Blank on new coordinators: "Their ability . . . to be totally objective, cold-hearted and unemotional about the young men that we have on the roster [should be an asset]," Blank said. "[We'll] bring in some folks that will be able to give us maybe some new perspective, maybe some different perspective not only on team questions, but on player issues that we may have as well." is Arthur looking back to instances where maybe there was too much loyalty to players, or an emotional attachment and saying he wants the staff to be more cold hearted? I'm thinking He thinks there are some cuts that need to be made and maybe Coach/TD are too emotionally attached sometimes to make those cuts? i personally think this next season determines Coach Smiths future. if we don't get far into the playoffs, he may be looking to make a change afterwards RE: Reading back over the notes from the news conference - atljbo - 01-13-2012 02:08 PM I agree with Mr.Blank... He is basically saying that news eyes can really tell us what they think about our players.. The previous coaching staff knew our guys ... It was harder to make those business decisions... Also listening to TD.. It sound like he knows his job will be on the line if things dont improve in the future so he has to be "that guy" also. RE: Reading back over the notes from the news conference - papachaz - 01-13-2012 02:34 PM i agree jbo, seems TD maybe needs to have learned that from BB. there have been times, adam jennings, jason elam...etc etc, where it seems they are more longsuffering than they need to be. i'm not advocating cutting someone @ the first bad game, but there comes a time, esp in todays league, where moves should be made before you lose all potential value in a player. i'll get flamed for it, but this year to me, its Roddy. there's some trade value there, and we need some picks. as popular as he is, it may be time to get what we can to improve the team RE: Reading back over the notes from the news conference - The Don™ - 01-13-2012 02:41 PM (01-13-2012 02:34 PM)papachaz Wrote: i agree jbo, seems TD maybe needs to have learned that from BB. there have been times, adam jennings, jason elam...etc etc, where it seems they are more longsuffering than they need to be.I disagree fully. Roddy is gonna be fine. I think he just started to lose confidence in MM. He still has the ability to do damage whenever he catches the ball. He just needs to concentrate and he should be fine. If we're gonna dangle someone out there, I think we should try to see what value Turner has. Maybe a fifth rounder? I don't think the market for overused 30 year-old running backs is very favorable right now. Just been discussing this with Jayhawk. What would be your plan of action in trading Roddy. How many picks which picks, where would you use them. Where does the replacement for Roddy come from. How many seasons would you allow for this process. Would you be willing to wait one more year to see what happens with Roddy in a new scheme. My point here is as it stands he is the number one receiver he has not been surpassed by Julio although I believe next season he will. Is it not wise to see the scope of the young man in a new system that maybe lets our other young receivers shine before we jettison the man he was brought in to support and take over from? To me it just seems like we would go into a season with too many unknowns if we did it this year. I agree though he does seem to have the most trade value. I think there may be a few other players we could use to recoup some picks also but doubt it happens RE: Reading back over the notes from the news conference - Peyton - 01-13-2012 02:52 PM I think when you start trading your star players for picks, you are in rebuilding mode. I don't think the Falcons are in rebuilding mode. Let's get some guys that are truly useless out of the lineup. Let's start with Sam Baker and Thomas DeCoud. Decoud is easy, he is a free agent right? I wonder how many picks we would have to give up for someone to take Baker off our hands. As for what, i have no idea what he'd be worth. i'll be the first to admit that. but if we were wanting to trade someone to get more picks, then he would be our most valued asset for that. as for doing that meaning we'd be back in rebuild mode, the Pats do this all the time, i don't think they've been considered in rebuild mode for several years now. This team was not prepared this year and too many coaching mistakes were made. It is always stated how close Smith and TD are. Arthur is telling TD to get some separation from Smith and act like the GM. |
