RE: I Loved hearing Arthur Blank saying Offensive Line was not good enough... - Falcons all the way! - 01-12-2012 09:40 AM Stop bullshitin TD and bring him home!!! I Loved hearing Arthur Blank saying Offensive Line was not good enough... - juraitwaluzka - 01-12-2012 09:57 AM OL is going to be a challenge. As you said Clabo and Blaylock probably aren't going anywhere. I don't know what FA are out there this year, but if there's quality available maybe that's where our big purchase will be. I'm with you on Mike Johnson that was kinda strange. So how do we go about doing that? We gave big contracts to Blalock and Clabo (who played like a diseased donkey dick most of the season), leaving us with possible upgrades at LT, C and RG. Svitek performed anywhere from so-so (payoff game) to good (vikings game). He's 30 and not the long term answer. We go through this every year with McClure. He continues to age, weaken and struggle against big NT's. But there are always cries of "he's smart!", "he's a savvy veteran!" Probably time for an upgrade there, and I'm not convinced it's Hawley. He was unremarkable at C. Speaking of Hawley, he can't ever play RG. EVER. He was a turnstile, not unlike his predecessor Reynolds. No idea what we have in Johnson. He was an elite G in college, but I don't know why he went on IR after a single concussion, unless the falcons aren't telling us something. That didn't make sense at all.Baker was a 1st round pick. Clabo was UDFA. One went to the pro bowl the other didn't The Packers, Pats and Saints the teams with the best passing teams in the NFL have always built the O-lines with low draft picks and UDFA's. Its all about coaching, scheme and talent evaluation. If we use the same criteria to gauge Hawley, Johnson and Reynolds as we do other players, you know the three year rule on skill and quality of pick then we should see what happens. Look at Bosher everyone was ready to dump him and he turned out alright. I think Hawley can be good. Does he have what it takes to be a C in the NFL. I don't know but Jeff Saturday arguably the best center in the NFL and potential HOF was UDFA, so our next center could be out there somewhere. RE: I Loved hearing Arthur Blank saying Offensive Line was not good enough... - Polar Bear Jones - 01-12-2012 12:08 PM Its a natural progression we have upgraded skill positions with Turner, Julio, Gonzo and attempted to make due and develop guys on the o-line. Now the skill positions are ready to roll but the o-line is not. Immediate impact guys will be brought in to bring the O-line up to speed. BTW, the best Center in the league is Nick Mangold(1st round), and he's better than everyone by a mile. |
