FLOWERY BRANCH — When Atlanta Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes was announced as inactive for Sunday’s final regular season game against Tampa Bay, I wondered if the move was just precautionary or if he’d had a setback with his surgically-repaired knee.

It turns out it was both.

Grimes said Wednesday that his knee did take a turn for the worse last week but the move was more precautionary than anything.

“It tightened up on me,” said Grimes. “It’s a little sore. Nothing serious, he [Coach Mike Smith] was just taking care of me.”

Smith’s action to sit Grimes was absolutely the right move. The Falcons didn’t need Grimes to win the game, and the extra rest should do wonders for the recovery of his knee. Grimes said he always wants to play, but being told to sit out was OK by him. He understood a more healthy knee is the ultimate goal.

Grimes did not practice Wednesday in preparation for the Sunday playoff game in New York against the Giants, but he said he’d be ready.

“Yeah,” said Grimes. “I expect to play.”

According to 680 the fan Grimes did not participate in practice today as well... let's hope it's just another day of rest?

The Falcons are in trouble if Brent isn't ready for this one. Ditto with Sean Weatherspoon.

Some one tweeted earlier today that Grimes not practicing Thursday was just precautionary so he can be as healthy as possible for the game. He'll play and I'm not worried about it in the least.

The Thursday report is up and I can confirm that, only Grimes and Nic were held out. I think with Grimes they will hold him but he will play on game day, it makes sense to give him as much time as possible.

For those of you Brent Grimes fans, he will be hosting a camp this year from June 7-10 at Oglethorpe University. The camp information can be found at http://www.footballcamps.com

We need Grimes this weekend. No one this year has been able to match up against Nicks too well, Grimes is our best shot at keeping him at bay. Same goes with Spoon, he's cruicial for our defense.

Grimes' vertical leap was not 100% last week. I hate to say it but I hope he limits his two handed interception attempts to a degree and attacks the ball with one hand more. A couple of one handed INTs would be nice.

If he could pull those off, we'd have him at WR. He'd be a less physical Steve Smith.
