Just read an article about who was the Falcons Team MVP and Offensive and Defensive players of the year so far. Mine are like this:
Team MVP: Matt Ryan, since Ryan has caught fire recently his play has elevated the whole teams. What was once a wildly inconsistent offense has started to become what we hoped it would be. As evidenced earlier in the year, if Ryan plays poorly we as a team suffer greatly. If he's lights out then we are too. He has much more to do with our teams success than say, the Ravens with Flacco. Also you take Ryan out of the equation and we might be a 7 win team. All year we've had terrible o line play, Turner, Jones, and White have all missed time and yet we still sit at 9-5 and in the drivers seat for the 5 seed. To me the biggest and most important piece (sorry Turner, your the second most important now) is Matt Ryan. You put Snelling in the backfield or Rogers and we'd survive. Chris Redman...I don't think so.
Offensive MVP: Michael Turner, since I didn't give him MVP honors, it only seems fair to give the O-MVP to the Burner. He has been a mostly steady force in the backfield and has been a reliable runner and blocker all year. As well as a security valve for Ryan of sorts. If Ryan doesn't recognize the coverage then just audible to a run with your 250 lb running back. He'll make do. Sitting at 1100 yards and 9 td's it's safe to say he's had a big hand in helping this offense move the chains and get in the endzone. Also in the spirit of the fact that he is possibly the best FA signing EVER for us and he'll soon hold all the major rushing records, the Burner should get some love here.
Defensive MVP: This is not all that tough, some might say Lofton, because of consistency and leadership. But how in the world could you overlook the Spoonman? Weatherspoon has been a force of nature out of the OLB position, routinely making game changing and saving plays. Time and time again a team will be on the verge of gaining momentum and making something happen on offense and then what??? SPOOOOOOOOON!!! that's what. He probably deserves this award from electrifying hits alone, but he has done more than that. He stops the run, plays the pass, blitzes the QB, and plays sideline to sideline. Never giving less than 10000%. He is without a doubt our most explosive Defensive player. (Sorry Grimesy. The injury knocked you out of the race)
Anyways, that's my thoughts. Anyone else care to chime in?

I don't think there is a clear MVP on offense. That offense when it is working right is hella balanced. I guess Ryan because he is the guy responsible for keeping the balance, and let's be honest, if Ryan isn't playing well, it doesn't matter who else is.
On defense, lot of guys playing well, but Weatherspoon has turned into the heart and soul of that defense. He is the MVP in my opinion.

see, it's stuff like this...what's the basis dude? you didn't like the pick, but can you honestly say you don't like the player?
anyways, offensively it's Matt Ryan...as Peyton said, if he isn't going, this offense isn't this year...
on defense, after losing Grimes and suddenly becoming a comically bad run defense, I'd have to say the lil' guy deserves a mention...although Spoon has been our play-maker this year, Grimes' impact has been felt through his loss

I disagree that we have become a bad run defense. We went up against Houston who have 2 backs that are a pain to find and then to bring down. They had to run it a lot to get the yardage they did and zone blocking schemes are an absolute bitch to play against because it forces everyone to read and react otherwise you can over pursue and get locked in. The scheme itself secures positive yardage before the player has because it kills penetration.
The panthers didn't ever really run on us. They had some runs here and there where someone slips through and picks up a few but we stayed in control of that.
Jaguars, have you seen MJD's work load and output this year. He has flat out been tearing it up. He is a slippery back and a powerful and fast one too. The very definition of what I hope the future holds for Rogers. He had some runs in that game you expect a guy like that to have but they never came easy for him. Football us a two way street you tackle a guy some go down. Some fight you tooth n nail and get a little more. Look at Julio he got tackled about 6 yards short but just like against LSU he drove the pile on his own against DBs LBs and I think one Dlineman and almost came up with the first.
What I do agree with you on is that the long run we got scorched for was not acceptable is that was a 10 yard rush or even 15 that would have been acceptable to considering who the back is. Of everyone had done their Job but he still got the yardage he did I would be annoyed but understanding because sometimes people just make plays. But nope a player missed their assignment and left a pretty nice gap and the messed up. Mistakes have to be kept to a minimum, and Moore did well to track from his side of the field to get over and bring MJD down. I think he is rounding the corner more and more into a playmaker but also a reliable cornerstone. That hit he put on MJD in my eyes was exactly what you needed I string hit that slowed the back straight away but Aldo a wrap which stopped him from going further and allowed team mates to swarm to the ball. Last season Moore may have come in and brought the hammer he could have whiffed of delivered it and not dropped the guy. He has learned when and when not to and that is important.

Agreed, if Grimes was 6-1 he'd be the best CB in the league. At least that's my opinion.

Spoon is the team MVP. He's been the only one that plays consistently on a weekly basis.
