Will Svitek - atljbo - 11-28-2011 12:09 PM Question of the day We know Will Svitek is our LT the rest of the year.... The new question is... Do you think we have found our new LT for the future (next 5 or so years) or do you still see LT as a need ? We found FA gems in Clabo and Dahl... PFF on Jared Allen vs Svitek Quiet day at the office Quote:The calling card of the Minnesota Vikings’ defense this season has been pressure off of the edge. The combination of Brian Robison (-3.3) and Jared Allen (-3.2) has accounted for 21 sacks, 8 hits and 50 pressures, yet this week they could only account for one hit by Robison, which was nullified by a holding penalty (Q1 7:04). This was the first time Allen had been shutout as a pass rusher since Week 5 last season, and his matchup that week (D’Brickashaw Ferguson) was far less favorable than it was this week against Will Svitek. For Robison this was the first blank pass rushing stat sheet of his starting career and the Falcons were able to use this to allow Ryan to throw into the flats a few times. The Vikings got some pressure through the middle, but some help off of the edge may have allowed them to have more success in slowing Matt Ryan and Roddy White down. The one positive for Allen this week, if he sees a precipitous drop in his efficiency as a pass rusher as time goes by he should have a future as a long snapper. After filling in for the injured Cullen Loeffler his long snaps were all on the money with holder/punter Chris Kluwe not needing to adjust for them. RE: Will Svitek - poutlipper - 11-28-2011 12:12 PM I think so. When I was looking at our different starting lines this season, we really didn't hit our stride until we had Svitek at LT and Hawley at RG. Matt Ryan isn't getting hit near as much as he was when Baker and Reynolds were starting. LT is still a position that, in theory, "good" doesn't cut it. You can have a good RG or a good RT, but you always strive to have a great LT. The next opportunity to get(FA)/groom(draft) a great LT should be taken advantage of. RE: Will Svitek - UnrealFalcon - 11-28-2011 12:24 PM I think he is a little old, since he played in NFL Europe or something. Would be good from 2 years atleast. Will Svitek is 29 yaears old... We resigned Clabo to a 5 year deal and he is 30.... O-Lineman can produce until their mid 30's... Also Will Svitek hasnt played alot until this year so he doesnt have the wear and tear on his body and #2... I fully understand what you are saying because im stuck in the middle on this subject RE: Will Svitek - atljbo - 11-28-2011 12:42 PM (11-28-2011 12:24 PM)UnrealFalcon Wrote: I think he is a little old, since he played in NFL Europe or something. The guy has skills though, personally I say he is the future. RE: Will Svitek - TonyGraziani - 11-28-2011 01:08 PM (11-28-2011 12:42 PM)atljbo Wrote: With your #1 .... Will Svitek is 29 yaears old... Anyway, Clabo was signed after a Pro Bowl season and producing for us for years. Svitek is just now showing ability to consistently start for us while playing a more important position at a lesser level than Clabo did at RT last year. I have no problems with him for the next year or 2 at this point, but I can't say I want him any longer than that at this point. RE: Will Svitek - papachaz - 11-28-2011 01:31 PM my thoughts are the next couple of years, but as already mentioned, we need to have the next guy in line/in training. those GREAT LT's only come along so often, so having an above average backup would be a great thing. what's everyone's thoughts on moving Baker to RG? Hawley hasn't done that badly, BUT i think we can upgrade that as well, and he is in line to take McClure's spot. I personally like that he's getting playing time at guard beside TM, i think it's a good thing for his future at center. and isn't Baker known better for run blocking? just a thought, i think it could work RE: Will Svitek - phocis850 - 11-28-2011 01:33 PM I don't care how old he is, he's better than Baker. |
