Coach has to take the blame for this one.... - Xanthri - 11-13-2011 09:11 PM Horrible call....worst I have EVER seen. I don't understand what the coach was thinking. This isn't a situation where the QB begged to go back out....(in which case the Coach STILL should have said no way) The WHOLE WORLD knew what the play would be....Matt Ryan Should have tried to hard count them offsides and we should have used our last time out in order to save a 5 yard delay of game penalty.... I truly love our Coach and I am glad to have him....but this WAS A BONEHEAD maneuver....we had stopped their momentum already....why take a chance?? RE: Coach has to take the blame for this one.... - Radical - 11-13-2011 09:17 PM Last time we punted to them instead of going for it, we never saw the ball again, and our defense had been rocking them that day too. We'd had success running, so why not trust your running team with a Pro Bowl bruiser RB to pick up a few inches? Our offensive line failed there, that's all there is to it. At some point, you have to look at the people executing the play. There is no correct answer when it's come down to that situation, whatever you do though has to work, or you're going to be beat all to hell with the hindsight stick. As I said before, it wouldn't matter if we told them which gap we were running and who was getting it, you shouldn't get blown backwards like that, period. For all we know, we could have punted like we've done twice before, and Brees ends up marching down the field for a FG or TD. Then we'd be sitting here calling Smith a dumbass for not trusting our rock pounding, 245 pound, mauler of a RB to pick up an inch. People would call him an idiot, because it would have been the third time in a row we would have punted the ball and never saw it again. The fact of the matter is that we didn't execute on the field, and that's all there is to it. Smith is a man of class, so he'll take the blame, but Smith wasn't on the field getting blown back 3 yards on that play. He did what he thought was right at the time to win. It's just too bad his players didn't share the same mindset. Not to be able to get a few inches for a 1st down in that situation is on the players moreso than the coach's decision. Man, you've got a really bad case of perspective.
RE: Coach has to take the blame for this one.... - papachaz - 11-14-2011 09:59 AM i know he's been doing better the last few games, but have you actually watched Bosher punt this year? i don't know that i'd trust him in there for another chance in OT either. it wasn't going for it that was wrong, it was the play. plain and simple you need a few inches and you have a qb over 6 ft who only has to reach the ball out to cross the line..... c'mon man! RE: Coach has to take the blame for this one.... - Paprika Neck - 11-14-2011 10:08 AM i hope in that situation you'd give the qb the option to decide whether to run pass or sneak. Bosher has been doing really well in the past few games. I didn't have any doubts about Bosher at the time and even now. It was all mental with him. Yeah. I didn't like the play. ESPECIALLY when the Saints had everyone in the box. I feel that we could have got them on a play action and catch them way off guard. This. A nice PA rollout (something we're all not too keen on) has actually been our bread & butter for the past few yrs now. I don't question that call (strategy wise) for a minute. If we go for that 10 times in a row, we probably get it 8 out of those 10. Yes, probably a poor play call in hindsight, but that's more on MM. I also hope that this doesn't shrink Smitty's marbles and scare him from doing something like that again in the future. RE: Coach has to take the blame for this one.... - AsylumGuido - 11-14-2011 08:42 PM ESPN pre-game is about to address "The Call" in a few minutes! RE: Coach has to take the blame for this one.... - Xanthri - 11-14-2011 11:05 PM Ok.....wake up folks....the only thing this can be called is a FAIL! NEVER do you go for 4th and anything when you are already inside field goal range......That is just plain old DUMB. Doesn't matter if you have the best line, best running back and best QB in the league. PERIOD. Rather take the chance of never getting the ball back, then give them the ball and even if they don't advance it they kick the field goal and make add look like Yahoos! |
