Alright, so with Julio Jones the offense was clearly misfiring somewhere. We are 2-3 with Julio in the line-up, 2-0 without him. Is this just coincidence that the offense was stagnant when Julio was playing? Or is there more to it? Is he taking away from the offense by actually being such a threat?
This is a run first team, we all know that the numbers speak for themselves and when Michael Turner runs the ball effectively we always come out on top. My hopes are that the offense just needed some time and they started hitting their marks when Julio went out of the lineup just as a coincidence. But if Julio comes back onto the field and the offense starts misfiring again, then what?

I think its just a coincidence... Julio Jones blocking would help the run game
I think we just have to find a good mixture of run and pass....
With the run game working the way it is and teams bringing that safety in the box... That will leave either Julio or Roddy with one man coverage....
We will run the ball tho.

I think it might have been that Ryan and Mularkey were trying to test out their new toy and they just went overboard, kind of like when we got Tony G. With him being gone we've gotten back to our identity and I hope that the coaches see him as additional piece of the offense and not the only option where you have to force it to him.

i think this is it too. julio was the #1 read on waaaay too many pass plays early on.

I believe that the Falcons figured being more explosive meant forcing the ball to their new toy in Julio Jones--at least, that's how it transpired . Make no mistake, their offensive woes to begin the season had more to do with a good philosophy ("We need to be more explosive!") hamstrung by poor O Line play, playcalling ("Oh look, more comeback routes and forces to Julio.") and a lack of execution (Dropped passes and inability to connect on deep throws).
With that said, Julio Jones makes this a much better football team. He is easily a huge upgrade from Jenkins. He can separate and provide a deep threat. And don't forget the YAC ability. Hopefully, these last two games have shown Mularkey and Smith that we should still rely on a balanced offense that favors the run, but incorporate JJ as another big time receiver Ryan can throw to. Slants and crossing patterns by Julio can lead to explosive plays as just as well as deep throws downfield. Plus, these tend to be higher percentage plays for Ryan...since we know he isn't the best deep ball thrower just yet.

We keep the same offense, but we just add back Julio instead of HD. Problem solved.

We have fullback issues now. Losing Ovie sucks and its hard to tell if it will markedly affect our run game until we see it in action against a quality opponent. It looks like that first real glimpse will come against the Aints in our house. I will never, ever, completely dismiss a team but the Colts make it very hard to believe they will be an accurate measuring stick.
The "explosive" offense debate regarding JJ has been done to death. Its pretty evident how it played out. There is no doubting that we are a better team with JJ than we are without him. Fitting in a second number one receiver in our offense is, obviously, not an easy task.

The problem is we still don't put up enough points to hang with the elite teams.
Getting us "back to our identity" is not really a good thing. Run-first ball-control 8 minute drives aren't going to win us a playoff game.
IMO it's sad that our professional OC can't figure out how to utilize the ridiculous amount of weapons we have and we're forced back into this ball-control mindset again to feel comfortable.

This. We need to start hanging up 35 + on people week in and week out. Won't always happen, there will be games that are defensive battles, event he aints and packers have low scoring games. But more times often than not they have high scoring plays coming from several big plays.

MM won't know what to do without Ovie.
I'm hoping to see some proform sets with Snelling and Turner in at times and then Snelling and JaQuizz in at other times. Snelling is a great receiver out of the backfield. And with Ovie down, it may be exactly what Quizz needs to show his worth to the team. He should be used like NO uses Sproles, who by the way touches the ball and get 7+ yards.
When we play NO, Sproles will be the deciding factor.
