I have no problem with zone, hell most any system works if it is executed properly. The problem is that we are not executing it and on top of that we seem to be just saying oh well, it's not working let's keep trying anyway. And worse it becomes utterly predictable. It seems obvious to me, if we can see what's coming most of the time from the couch it's no wonder the opposition is feasting. I mean c'mon an offense is going to take what a defense is giving them and we just keep giving them the same thing. Once they figure out what in their arsenal works against it they continue to do it with success because we seem unwilling to adjust.

What's the most frustrating to me is that we have seen the changes made before, we know they can do it, but we always just seem to revert back to the default. The 2nd saints game last year is a great example. Even in the loss our defense was creative and overall played outstanding (unfortunately for us, so did the saints defense).

I think it's stubbornness in their system instead of adjusting to the talent. Unfortunately it's an ingrained philosophy and the best we can hope for is that the players learn to execute the system because I don't see the system changing, on the radio show tonight Smitty was talking about the benefits of the 3-3-5 so expect to see more of it.
They've been implementing it for 4 years now and I see LITTLE IMPROVEMENT in the passing defense. There are still guys that look lost in the zone. There are still gaping holes in the zone. It is pure stubbornness from the coaching staff to realize that their system is not working. I mean, we've had below average to average QBs shred our secondary and made them look better than they actually are...

But like you said, I don't see the coaching staff changing their scheme. If this was our first, second, or maybe even third year in the scheme, then I would say "let's give it some time and let Smith, TD, and BVG get the players for their scheme", but this is the fourth year, and guys like Tavaris freakin Jackson should not be putting up career highs in passing yards against you....We should not be seeing the same shit from this defense in the fourth year that we saw the first three....
