It wasn't "inexcusable", it was freaking perfect timing and did exactly what it was supposed to do. Look what happened to Maclin on the most important play of the game. He got T-Rex arms and was afraid to lay out for that pass. Dunta just took one for the team and everyone in that locker room knows it and i'm sure several will contribute to his fine.
Both his feet were still on the ground and Maclin was NOT defenseless. He took 3 steps with his head facing Dunta before the impact. And the top of Dunta's helmet barily caught the bottom of Maclin's facemask only because Maclin was starting to lower himself to brace for the hit he knew was coming. If he would have stayed up, Dunta's helmet would have only hit him square in the center of his chest.
I bet he gets a $75k fine and doesn't miss any games after they actually review it.

Sorry... he started to launch. Just cuz his feet didn't leave the ground doesn't mean it wasn't a launch.

His hit this year, unlike last year, is indefensible. Yeah, he will be made an example of, and this time I can't say they aren't wrong to do so.
It also doesn't help that he hasn't played up to our expectations so far this year. If he has to miss time, at least we have Hayden who can step in.

I didn't think it was Helmet to Helmet, but then again I could care less if Maclin got hurt or not.
I feel the way Dunta is forced to play, or has been playing he needs to be moved to One of the Safety Positions. I'll probably get flack for saying that, but Dunta just doesn't seem to be able to keep with most of the faster wideouts, so why play him 10 yards off the receiver, just make him accountable for the Deep plays alone.
Anyways just putting on my Armchair GM hat on.

same thing i was saying during the game. they rolled ryans knee, damn near pulled his arm off and then made him do a split all one 1 play. if that's not roughing the qb then get rid of the rule.

I think his hit last year was perfectly reasonable, and should have been a fumble by the Eagles. This one however, I think was uncalled for.

I think it scared the shit out of Maclin for the rest of the game and may or may not have been a factor on that final drop. If it somehow was, I'll help him pay the fine myself for tonight's win. And before anybody says it, I know that if ifs and buts were candy nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas...I'm just throwing in a little food for thought.
